Probably: Both anxiety and gastritis can cause gas. Anxiety attacks can lead to accidental swallowing of air from hyperventilation. That air has no where to go but down and can becomes flatulence. Gastritis can cause gas if the cause of the gastritis produces gas. Certain bacteria produce gas as an effect of their normal metabolism. Stomach issue: When does this occur, time of day? Also is it after a meal? Do you have change in bowel habits? What is diet like? How much alcohol do you drink and how soon before bed? GI care: It seams that you are being evaluated for these conditions. How long on Protonix (pantoprazole) and carafate and how much benefit? Are some of your symptoms newer since on this regimen? Not really.: Ibs causes abd distention, bloating, cramping, constipation and diarrhea like symptoms. Your symptoms sound typical of reflux disease. Avoid spicy food, chocolates, coffee, eat small meals, and take anti ulcer meds. Reflux symptoms could be from a hiatal hernia as well which is diagnosed by either an upper GI contrast study or egd. Several things: first, results from endo including H Pylori presence/absence would be helpful. Bloating below stomach isn't stomach. Then, omeprazole is weak in two regards 1) it is the weakest of the proton pump inhibitors and 2) proton pump inhibitors work for about 20 hrs not 24, taking a PPI twice a day increases its effectiveness on GERD but not bloating. ...Read more
