It's complicated...: Each institution has its own standard meal ; imaging protocol for gastric emptying studies. Each institution also has it's own normal database to compare to. Therefore, there is no exact number for normal t1/2. It depends on the meal and normal database for that institution. My 6y had a solid gastric emptying study. Emptying %'s: 1hr 16%, 2hr 40.6% & 4hr 82%.hes fft, has early satiety. Dr said results normal. Your opinion?
Just by reviewing the results, the gastric emptying at 4 hrs show mild delay in emptying. Grading for severity of delayed gastric emptying based on 4 hour value in normal results:
Grade 1 (mild): 11-20% retention at 4 hours
Grade 2 (moderate): 21-35% retention
Grade 3 (severe): 36-50% retention
Grade 4 (very severe): >50% retention

Not just fiber: Any meals other than the food given to swallow for the study, may interact with the results of the study. May give a slower time of gastric emptying and the physician will report as abnormal when in fact is normal. Follow the instructions before getting test done. Good luck! ...Read more

GE reflux: Hida scan does check the function of gall bladder in conjunction with ultrasound. Usually when normal leads away from gb as issue. Gastric emptying has solid and liquid versions, one can be normal while other abnormal.
