I have incision from my recent gastric bypass surgery hurts 2 inches to the upper abdominal area. Is this normal?

Probably: It's probably normal post-op pain but impossible to say over the internet. Only a brief, hands-on exam can answer your question with any degree of certainty. If you develop fever, don't hesitate to have it checked.

See a bariatric surg: This is a very complex problem and you should see your bariatric surgeon to see what he recommends. You may require a surgery for reversal of the bypass. If your surgeon does not feel comfortable doing that complex surgery then you will need to see a surgeon that performs revision bariatric surgery.

See gastrenterologis: I would recommend you get in to see a gastroenterologist. It might simply be a side effect of Zanaflex (tizanidine) but it could be other more serious things.

You: You generally want your weight to be stable over a fair amount of time. I prefer at least 1 to 1.5 years after bypass before considering skin reduction surgery. Often times after losing a large amount of weight and recovery from the bypass, patients become more active and lose further weight and body fat that isn't seen initially. There can also be variations of your own schedule [e.g., season, work load, etc] that you won't see until you can see that you have plateaued for remain at that level. Hope this helps.

I have stomach ulcers after gastric bypass and I have no desire to eat is that normal?

No, but not uncommon: Follow up with surgeon. Tested for h. Pylori? Can cause ulcers. Marginal ulcers usually on the intestinal side of the anastomosis (seam) not rare. Needs follow up, especially if interfering with oral intake, or if vomiting (a big deal). See your doc.

Call your surgeon: You should call your gastric bypass surgeon and let them know what's going on. Recurrent abdominal pain could be from an ulcer, intussusception, or even an internal hernia. Urgency of appointment depends on severity of symptoms. Hope this helps!

I had gastric bypass 2 weeks ago Would marijuana smoke do the same harm as cigarettes would to my new stomach?

I had gastric bypass 2 weeks ago Would marijuana smoke do the same harm as cigarettes would to my new stomach?

Not usually: Tobacco smoke contains a number of substances that increase stomach acid and reduce the lower esophageal sphincter pressure, which increases reflux and esophagitis, while reducing the effectiveness of gastric mucous. Marijuana smoke does much less of this, but if you have had problems with peptic ulcer, gastritis or esophagitis, you are far better off not smoking ANYTHING.

I had gastric bypass surgery on may 2nd 2012 and it's been great up till now I have and belching and having stomach pains radiating around my back?

Biliary colic: These may be new symptoms unrelated to the bariatric surgery. Weight loss increases risk and incidence of gallstones. Gallstones can cause biliary colic: belching, bloating, upper abdominal pain after eating fatty foods that radiates into back. Okay to get see your doc. An ultrasound of the gallbladder can lead to a diagnosis. Avoid big meals and fatty meals until you can get evaluated.

Can I do the duodenal switch with a BMI of 27.5? Had gastric bypass 7 yrs ago. Gaining weight again. I exercise, but my stomach fits a lot of food!

Can I do the duodenal switch with a BMI of 27.5? Had gastric bypass 7 yrs ago. Gaining weight again. I exercise, but my stomach fits a lot of food!

No: Duodenal switch will not work in a patient that has undergone gastric bypass, since the food stream no longer goes by way of the duodenum. If you are gaining weight after a gastric bypass, you should see your surgeon or a specialized GI physician, who can determine the cause for weight gain. This is usually due to enlargement of the connection between the stomach pouch and the intestine.

Hypoglycemia: Okay to treat your hypoglycemia with small glucose tablet, turn off your Insulin pump, lower long acting Insulin in preparation for surgery. The requirement to not eat, to have an empty stomach for surgery is for safety with control of your airway and anesthesia. Avoiding aspiration is essential to safe surgery. Be well.

Please help! What is the difference between gastric bypass surgery, stomach stapling and gastric band surgery?

Please help! What is the difference between gastric bypass surgery, stomach stapling and gastric band surgery?

Bypass and band: Lap band is the safest and is reversible which attracts a lot of patients, but failure rates are high, it is easy to cheat, weight loss is slower. Bypass is the gold standard, been around for 50yrs, results in the greatest weight loss, highest cure rates for diabetes, but has a higher risk. Stomach stapling can mean many different things. You probably mean sleeve gastrectomy, also good, the newest.
