Wt gain after bypass: You need to get re-engaged with your weight loss program where you had surgery (assuming they offer a support program). Patients who attend support groups are more successful than those who do not attend. There may also be an anatomical reason why you have gained weight like an enlarged gastric pouch, an enlarged anastomosis, or both, which can be corrected with revisional surgery. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Is there a diet that I can go on to shrink my gastric bypass pouch back down to the size that it was. Have lost over 200+ want to go another 50 lbs. ?
Probably not: Diet alone will not shrink the pouch. However, limiting your portion sizes should help. Be sure you are limiting high fat foods and carbohydrates. Most people eat too much of these. If you limit them you should lose weight. Also, are you exercising? If you walk daily it should help with weight loss. Be sure to talk with your doctor about a good goal weight. Good luck! ...Read more

Is it ok to eat pickles while on a gastric bypass 2week pre op diet since it has no cals, carbs fats or surgar?
Ask your surgeon: It is probably ok to eat pickles 2 weeks prior to your bypass. However, every surgeon has their own protocol and sometimes can be very particular about it. It is better to ask your surgeon and be safe rather than risk having your surgery postponed because you were craving a pickle. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
..five bite diet.. I can't afford the gastric bypass surgery thought I'd try this and guess what I've lost over 75lbs! I feel great! But is this safe?
Weight loss : You may have lost weight on this diet and it may have worked for you ! I don't think it is healthy , because you are missing out on nutrients , because you are eating such low volume of food . Unless you are taking some high powered organic , food supplements , I believe , long term side effects would be hair loss , brittle nails , saggy skin . Rethink this concept . See a dietician and a doctor ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Could you tell me what are considered "clear" liquids on the pre-op diet for gastric bypass surgery?
I am on antipsychotics gained weight I have diet exercise no luck while on it doc won't take me off thinking of lapband or gastric bypass ?
Stay on meds!: I know u asked about surg, but meds first. Anger issues: i can see why your doc would want you to stay on your meds. However, none of the meds listed are antipsychotics, so I am confused. Phentermine, while for wt loss, can make anger worse. See if doc will try metformin instead. And instead of the clonazepam, what was your antipsychotic? Is there a less fatty one? Or it with metformin? Be well. ...Read more
Is the mini gastric bypass (no surgery) from roca labs usa any good? I have dieted, exercised, and starved myself i need to lose weight and this seems like it would help.
Unfortunately : Unfortunately I am unable to provide you with an answer. This question is best handled by a general surgeon who specializes in bariatric surgery, rather than by a vascular surgeon. The word "bypass" is usually associated with vascular, and so that is why your question was directed towards me. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

If it's true that patient stops losing weight after one year of gastric bypass surgery, can she still lose weight with diet and simple sports?
Yes: Diet and exercise are the mainstay for weight loss. As long as the balance of calories in vs calories out is negative, then there will be weight loss. A gastric bypass surgery is only a tool to jumpstart a weight loss program. Any tool can be beaten. Continue for a lifetime with prudent, low-carb diet and daily exercise for ongoing weight loss and weight maintenance. ...Read more
I know gastric bypass surgery is a great weight loss tool, but can patients take diet pill to help speed things up?
Mini gastric bypass: The mini gastric bypass is not endorsed by any asmbs or any of the top academic bariatric surgery programs in the country. It is safe, but it is basically a billroth 2 operation which can cause bile reflux. The fix for that problem is a roux-en-y gastric bypass meaning that for 50 years we have known that a roux-en-y is better than a billroth 2. The b2 is just easier for the surgeon to do. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Yes you can: The standard bypass does not remove any parts, so re-connecting the stomach pouch to the remnant stomach and removing the roux small bowel limb are possible. Reversal is rarely done since most problems causing patients to consider reversal can be treated with other means. The procedure has higher risk than the first operation since the surgeon is working with altered anatomy. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
