Gassy Baby Remedies
Not so fast: Before you decide that your baby has colic, first get your pediatrician to do a physical exam to rule out other causes. Colic is sometimes due to a component of the mother's diet. Your pediatrician can examine and possibly give you a hydrolysate formula. Consider eliminating certain foods. Till then, rock your baby, sing, soothe, pacify, and don't overfeed. Oral hygiene: Gripe water may have a soothing effect in babies because of its sweetness, but research has shown it to be of no therapeutic effect. Your baby may be accumulating some food debris in his/her mouth causing bacteria to proliferate and causing bad breath. Make sure you swab your child's mouth clean after feeding. Visit your pediatrician and have your baby examined for upper respiratory and gut problm. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
No: Mom's food choices should not upset her breastfed baby's tummy. However, if mom suspects that a particular food or drink causes fussiness or tummy symptoms in the baby, then mom can avoid that food/drink for 2 weeks and see if the baby is happier. If the baby is happier, then mom can resume that food/drink to see if the baby gets fussy again. If fussier again, then maybe there is a connection. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

2 mo old baby passes lots smelly farts. Poop mustard yellow, smelly. Sometimes in pain. Formula and breast fed. Tried ovol, gripe, massage. Concern?
Baby poop: What you are describing all sounds very normal. The poop is a reflection of the bacteria in the baby's gut as well as your diet (as you are sometimes breast feeding). Babies often cry when trying to have bowel movements - it's a new thing for them and they have to learn how to relax a sphincter and at the same time are bearing down to push the stool out - they get frustrated/cry - it gets better ...Read more
Besides cabbage leafs what stops breast milk baby is fifthteen months milk everywhere tried everything wash cloths inside bra?
Weaning: If you have nursed for 15 months, the best thing to do in order to decrease discomfort for both of you is to do it gradually so your body decreases prolactin production. Start with weaning one feed and do this for a couple of days, then increase to two and so forth until you are down to the minimum. Wear a snug bra and put cool compresses on your breasts. Sage tea might also help. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
No: Breast milk is warm and tastes yummy to a baby. So, breast milk should not make a baby fussy. If a baby drinking from the breast seems fussy, but drinking formula seems fine, then the baby might be impatient (try feeding breast milk from a bottle to see what happens). On the other hand, a young baby might fuss on the breast when the let-down occurs because the milk is coming too fast! ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Generally most: Solids are usually introduced at 4 months depending on the babies interest. Generally starting with rice cereal pal and adding a new food monthly. Vegetables are next and then meat. Often fruit is added at the end. Timing of eggs is controversial but most babies receive egg yolks first and then the entire eff between 8 and 12 months. Foods need to be puréed until babies are able to use their teeth ...Read more
Not the formula: Constipation can be a temporary finding in babies. Since they eat formula, the natural assumption is that formula causes constipation. However, it's best to have the doc look at the baby and determine if the baby needs testing for other medical conditions or try ways to soften the stools without changing the formula unnecessarily. ...Read more
18 month baby constant constipation, very hard stools and cries when pooping. The only relief is glycerin. Tried prune juice and veggies nothing works?
Call Pediatrician: Likely just extracts too much water from stool, leading to constipation. Can try apple juice as often better tolerated than prune juice (in quantity needed to help). Ask pediatrician about daily use of MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) (1/4-1/2 cap in bottle of juice) to help keep stools softer from "above" so glycerin needed less often "below.". ...Read more
CONSTIPATION IN: Infant: if problem since birth, e.g. Delayed passage of meconeum followed by ongoing constipation needs to rule out "hirschsprung disease". Breast fed babies can have a bowel movement every 5-7 or more days; as long as stool is firm, not to worry. Sometimes in formula fed babies, change of formula to a whey protein containing formula helps. Check with your child's pediatrician to find out the caus. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
What can I do to help my 4 week old breastfed withh stomach pain, gas? I've tried mylicon, colic calm, burping. Moans and grunts and has ahard stomach
Tummy & back rubs: Sounds like you have already tried most of the recommended steps! sometimes if too much gas, either from air swallowing while nursing or crying, tummy time w back rub can help move the gas. (buns up-> gas rises!) if stools are too hard (rare on breastmilk), you could give up to 1oz/day of prune juice to add fiber. If belly is firm and tender, best to see dr asap for exam and more options. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Soy formula fed baby sleeps, feeds, and urinates very well. However, she has been constipated and in pain when straining. What remedies can I try?
6 months old baby started eating organic made baby food. Now is constipated.she's had sweet potatoes, banana, Apple's, peas, squash, zucchini. ?
Why the rush: Solids in the first year do not help the baby grow better.Breast milk is an adequate nutrition source, and solids today are primarily a training process to transition them to the table. Apples and bananas are constipating agents. Prunes & pears loosen stools. I'd quit the rush through the list of foods and just keep it simple. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
