Good sign: Dead nerve do not hurt. The dysesthesia you describe means the nerve is working - just not too well. It is trying to recover from injury. It should recover with time and appropriate care. You may use local anesthetic cream to help numb it during the recovery. ...Read more

Hand surgeon: This question is best answered by your surgeon who performed the procedure during which superficial nerves were probably disturbed and are very slow to grow back. I'm sure the surgeon will want to examine your hand if you're having so much discomfort 5 months later. ...Read more

Yes: You can certainly have a ganglion cyst located in that region. This would more than likely be associated with the tendon sheath that helps move the thumb in toward the palm (flexion). These are easily treated but should be examined by a hand surgeon to make sure it is nothing else other than a typical cyst. ...Read more
