Gamma Gt Safe Levels
Total bilirubin 6umol/L ,Alk phos 63u/L,Alt 11u/L all normal . gamma GT 38 uL normal <31 . Wondering why is gamma GT out of range and what is next? C reactive protein <0.3 mg/L.All hematolog panel normal.thanks
Normal: The numbers you present are essentially all normal. The minimal increase in GGT is highly nonspecific and so small as to be of no concern (absent other symptoms or concerns that suggest a problem with your liver or gall bladder). If concerned, suggest a retest in 1-2 months (and be sure to avoid any alcohol for 2 weeks prior to the test - excess alcohol consumption can elevate the GGT). ...Read more

Leukocytes TRACE WITH WBC 11-30?
Many causes: There are many potential causes for these persistent abnormalities. Fatty liver disease, medications, alcohol use, thyroid disease, celiac disease, chronic viral hepatitis, autoimmune disease, and certain genetic abnormalities. Female, 50 yrs
Taking Eptoin 100mg since 3 yrs ALKALINE PHOSPHATASE:191
Gamma Glutamyl Transferase:90
Is it serious?
Which specialist to consult
See a GI Dr.: While the values are elevated, it is important to determine the exact cause. Eptoin may not be the cause. It would be best if she a gastroenterologist. The elevated values may or may not be serious. ...Read more
Alkaline phosphatase is marked as low at 35 iu/l. All else normal. Alt 17 and AST 19. Bilirubin 0.4 safe to take tylenol (acetaminophen)? Does low alp = liver damage?
Liver enzyme: Gamma glutamyl transaminase / transpeptidase enzyme rises in some liver illnesses and supposedly is the first to rise in drinkers. It's a poor screen, some folks are born with lifelong high levels, but it's better than nothing. ...Read more
ALT 57 for 2 yrs. AST 33, Gamma GT 47, Bilirubin 0.5. Anti HCV & HbsAg negative, no fatty liver. I have Ps Arthritis. Why ALT is elevated for 2 yrs?
Liver disease.: There are a few other potential causes which may be pursued with simple lab testing (wilsons disease, alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency, autoimmune hepatitis, etc), but if this all turns out negative (as I expect it might) then you will need to consider biopsy. If your numbers have been stable I am not sure this would be particularly useful for you. ...Read more
Get worked up: The Febuxostat that you are taking for your elevated uric acid is famous for raising SGOT and sgpt. Your physician needs to take you off this medication and off alcohol for a two week trial. If he/she does not do this at your next appointment, request a consult. If the sgot/sgpt are still up, you'll need to be worked up for hepatitis b and c, wilson's, hemochromatosis, and nafld. ...Read more
Probably: The more important parameter is your GFR. This is calculated based on age, creatinine and weight. If it is over 60, there is no contraindication to using metformin. A young male who is very muscular may have a high creatinine but normal GFR. The usual cut off level for not using metformin in men is a creatine above 1.5 ...Read more

Need more info.: It's impossible to analyze individual lab values without knowing more, such as the normal ranges at that lab and other medical history at the time of the blood draw. You should ask your doctor for his opinion of those labs. An alternative would be to upload the labs here on HealthTap Prime and have one of our doctors interpret them for you, in the context of your medical history. Good luck. ...Read more
Total ck, sed rate, ana, ip ace, serum protein panel normal but gamma globulin (.6) cortisol am (30.8)
Hx of low vit d and K.
What could this mean?
Not much-: An important thing to remember is that lab results are not useful unless there is a clinical context. Advice is based on focusing on the patient, not the numbers. Though you mention a history of low vit D and K, did symptoms exist when the labs were drawn? Why were they drawn in the first place? Otherwise, it is best to ask your ordering doctor what the results mean. ...Read more
Sir, my HBV DNA levels is 507 iu/ml .HBE AG -ve, ANTIBOBY HBE AG +ve, ALT 57iu/ml. I can't understand why ALT is Increased? Do i need treatment?
Yes: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, you did not state the level of ALT. More important is the presence of viral DNA in blood suggesting active infection, you should seek treatment for that. ...Read more

Other findings?: Serum level of GGT of 67 is higher than normal and suggests injury to liver. However, an isolated lab test is not a reason to worry. What did other tests show? Do you drink? If you do, abstain for 2-3 weeks and repeat the test. Are you on any medications, including herbs and over the counter drugs? Discuss all these issues with your doctor to identify the cause of liver injury. ...Read more
