When was surgery?: For the first several weeks after surgery there can be some inflammation and "scar tissue" which presents as this. If there is redness increasing pain and/or discharge it may be infected. If it has been years since the surgery you may have a hernia there. Some cancers present as a mass in this area. If your surgery: was laparoscopic operation through your umbilicus, it could be a delayed infection or suture granuloma. Show it to your surgeon. I don't think it is anything deeper than your abdominal wall. ...Read more

NO IT IS NOT: Depend on the natyre of the redness generally speaking it is not it could indicate infection
see your surgeon he definitly want to know about it he could either assure you or tske care of it

Normal: This is part of the normal healing process. Frequently referred to as the healing ridge. Its the inflammatory portion of the normal wound healing phase. Should become soft in 6-8 weeks, but variability exists. If in the future you feel a lump, it could be a hernia, especially if you can push it in to the abdomen.
