Depends : there are many causes of abdominal pain. If you are having right upper quadrant pain, especially after meals that resolves over time it may be your gallbladder. You mentioned the HIDA scan. I assume you also had an ultrasound to look for stones? If not you should have ...Read more

Biliary dyskinesia : The medical term for the gallbladder not functioning right is biliary dyskenesia. Instead of squeezing out bile to help digest food, the gallbladder spasms. The test is called a hida scan and if you gallbladder ef is less than 35% them most surgeons would recommend to have your gallbladder removed. Need more informatio: Back ; shoulder pain daily, by itself, is not likely due to gallbladder dysfunction. If you are having upper abdominal discomfort ; nausea after eating, then that may be a gallbladder symptom. Isolated back ; shoulder pain is much more likely to be a muscular pain in origin. ...Read more

Lap cholecystectomy: If your hida scan shows an ejection fraction of only 2%, you almost certainly have biliary dyskinesia causing you abdominal symptoms. You should see a general surgeon soon to consider having a laparoscopic cholecystectomy with the expectation that your symptoms will be resolved. ...Read more

May be : I wonder if you are referring to poor gallbladder emptying, measured by a hida scan. Sometimes a person has poor emptying and no stones. It this situation, it is possible to have sludge in the gallbladder that does not show up on an ultrasound. But it still can be associated with symptoms. Talk with your doctor, and good luck. Sounds like biliary: Dyskinesia, given that there are no stones and low gallbladder ef. Cholecystectomy will alleviate symptoms in 70% of patients with this diagnosis. However, if there is also elevated bilirubin, that is suspicious for obstruction. Bilirubin needs to be fractionated and if it is direct bilirubin which is elevated further studies are indicated (e.g. Mrcp). Fatty liver should not cause elevated bilirub. ...Read more
