Im type 2 diabetic & my ankle is fused. I hv neuropathy in that ankle. I take gabapentin (900mg 3x day) & hydrocdne (10/325) the same. I still hv pain?
Is the pain neurop: is your pain neuropathy or is it different. If it is neuropathy you are at the top dose of gabapentin so may need to switch to Lyrica . Usually neuropathy is in both legs so if just the fused ankle one needs better explanation than diabetes for the neuropathy. Not major problem: Many choices including Lyrica (which may be tolerated better than gabapentin, but also consider Horizant and Gralise). Might try Cymbalta, Savella, amitryptyline, but may benefit from lamotrigine, levetiracetam, other tricyclics or even SSNRI's. But maybe find etiology of neuropathy and treat cause directly. ...Read more
There are some: Other options. After increasing Gabapentin to where the side affects get to you, you can try Lyrica as well. If that class of meds is not helping, consider medications like Cymbalta which also can help. Consider topical pain creams containing ketamine that can be very beneficial for neuropathy pain. Also try desensitization techniques like contrast baths. Make sure to have regular foot exams too. ...Read more
