Fussy (Overview)

A fussy infant or child is one who may be more irritable than usual. She may not eat as much as usual and may have trouble sleeping. A fussy baby may have an infection, teeth coming in, a tummy ache, or just be distressed due to a change of schedule or "having a bad day". If it persists or she can't sleep or eat anything, call your child's doctor.

Many infants become : fussy, tired & not interested in feeding for 2-3 days after receiving vaccines. Ask his doctor about using Pedialyte to keep him well hydrated, with his usual number of wet diapers, & Tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain or fever. Take him to his doctor if he continues to be off his feed or have fever, a rectal temperature of 100.4 degrees or >, for more than 3 days. Colic: Babies can have fussy time in the afternoon thru evening from 2 weeks of age thru about 8 weeks. It is a normal but difficult time period of fussy belly and hence fussy baby. Try some skin to skin time as this often will soothe baby. If you get anxious or angry, put baby down in the crib for a while.
