Fungi (Overview)

Fungi are multi-cellular organisms that grow as yeasts, molds, and mushrooms. Human disease can be cause by fungi that grow as yeasts or molds. Some of these fungi live normally on human skin and do not cause symptoms. Others that normally live in the environment and can cause serious disease when in humans. Still other fungi cause less serious disease such as diaper rash and ring worm.

Proper diagnosis: First you need to be sure that it is from a fungal infection since fungal infection on the face is rather uncommon. In the US, OTC antifungal cream is readily available but I don't know what you can get in the Philippines without a Rx. ...Read more

Not sure: Fungi can grow in almost any live substance, some of which would be classified as foods. You can see it on breads, fruit, cheese, etc. Fungi can also grow on and in people -- both living and dead. Some feel that candida (which is a fungus) grows more liberally when fed by sugary, high carbohydrate foods. Jock Itch?: Eliminate trapped sweat or moisture in the area by loose clothing, boxers not briefs, removing wet clothing asap, not itching, using anti fungal powder around jock or cup if needed, tx all areas (feet, groin, etc.) with topical lamisal/lotrimin for up to 3 mo. Can be deadly: White lesions in the mouth should be checked . There are many carcinomas of the mouth that start out as white lesions. However, there are also many white lesions that are benign. If the lesions are on the top part of your tongue and they come and go, you may have a candida (yeast infection).
