Can inner ear fungal infections be harmful to your body? My inner ears have been itchy for a long time now and I don't know what's causing it

External ear: I am sure you mean a possible fungal infection of the EXTERNAL EAR CANAL, not the inner ear. You need a culture of the drainage of the ear canal skin to document the presence of fungus. The most common cause of dry ears causing itchiness is the over use of Q-tips to clean your ears of wax. Wax in the ear canal is important and healthy and will migrate out on its own. ...Read more

Black stuff on qtip from ear? Is this a fungal infection? Also lots of headaches, dizziness?

Ear: Not enough information to make an accurate assessment. Wax/debris from the ear can be various colors, mostly in the yellow-orange-brown family. If you were outdoors, and more specifically, in the dirt, you can have blackish color to your ear wax. Urban myth: There are some systemic fungal infections, such as histoplasmosis, coccidioidomycosis (valley fever), and acute bloodstream infections that usually are rapidly fatal if not treated. However, the notion of chronic candidiasis or other chronic "systemic" yeast (fungal) infections is an urban myth. The symptoms you mention are not due to yeast or fungus of any kind. ...Read more

Given lotrisone (clotrimazole and betamethasone) for penile fungal infection. Used 9 days, foreskin thinning, blueness on head. Month later, skin still thinned & burning. Concerned!

Use steroid free: Lotrisone (clotrimazole and betamethasone) is a combination of both an anti-fungal and a topical steroid. The steroid is causing the thinning of the skin. And 9 days is not long enough to treat fungal skin infection. You need a topical cream like lotrimin that is just the anti-fungal cream and not containing any steroid, and then use it routinely for weeks to clear up the infection. Oral meds also available but more side effects. ...Read more
