Especially as they age, children learn much about socialization thru free play. Yet some guidance and direction with interaction with family members is crucial for development as well. Strike a balance. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

My 12 yr. Old son falls asleep doing schoolwork, homework, and chores; but is alert when watching t.V. Or playing video games, is this adhd?
Maybe: Tv and video games are geared for a 4 second attention span. Most 2 year olds have longer attention spans than that. The 4 second attention span keeps your son alert via a neural reflex. It also lowers his attention span for the real world. Research states of those who watch 1 hour a day 9% will lower their attention span to add levels. 2 hours lowers 18% and 3 hrs 27%. Limit both to 45 min/day. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
can brain training web games (eg lumosity.Com) be harmful to kids above 3 years? Kids seem to love playing it - but is there any side-effect?
Above three?: Do you mean above or below the age of three? Recent studies suggest that children under the age of two, really do not benefit from any video electronics. They can be too overstimulating. All children's tv programming should be limited to no more than one hour per day. I do not believe in having a tv in a child's room. You are not doing your kids a favor by exposing them too early to media. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

'studying' imparts not only self-discipline but confidence and self esteem as well; and can be great in potentially dealing with "bullies". Does playing video games or watching tv series and movies will affect studying and brain skills?
What are the things i can do for better studying?
Yes: One would hope for a more-than-cyber experience of life -- allowing real-time relationships with actual people, with all their challenges and rewards. Playing video games all day leaves no room for this, or for interests outside of video games. One's awareness would be extremely narrow. Also, unless you land a job as a tester of video games, it's hard to imagine earning a living that way. ...Read more
Are computer games harmful to a child's development, or do they help train him for a future in computers?
Some are: Many computer games involve killing and maiming and seem to me to teach that violence is O.K. Others, like e.g. Snow boarding, teach dexterity and computer savvy. Like everything in life, it should be balanced by thoughtful restriction. I believe that the constant use of electronic gadgets is harming kids because it is surprisingly addictive. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
