Need evaluation: There are many different possibilities as to the source of the pain. It could be due to a pinched nerve from the lumbar spine, sacroiliac joint dysfunction, hip disorder , muscle strain, or many other causes. Probably overuse: Since this involves both knees, it is probably from overuse, especially since only the back of the knee. Take more frequent breaks to get up and walk around. Perform simple range of motion activities by moving the knee through full range of motion and stretch at the limits of motion when fully straight and fully bent. Ice may help if pain persists. Apply ice to painful area 15-20 min/hour. ...Read more
Possibly: If your knee pain causes you to limp the altered mechanics of motion in your back may lead to pain. On the other hand if there is nerve compression in the back it may lead to nerve pain that radiates to the knee. Or there may be a problem in both areas. Careful evaluation is the key to diagnosis. ...Read more
Many possibilities: The first question becomes are the symptoms stemming from one area of injury/pathology, or are the 2 pains separate entities? May be referred pain from back, may be systemic disease causing both, may be knee pain causing poor gait patterns leading to back pain, etc ( list goes on). Evaluation is always best, in order to let a specialist find the cause/causes and treat appropriately from there. ...Read more
