Frequent night waking is a clinical finding in which a person often has trouble sleeping due to waking up in the middle of the night. This can occur with sleep disorders, a breathing disorder called obstructive sleep apnea, or depression and other psychiatric illnesses.

Sleep routines: All adults & kids wake in the night but most learn to resettle & most don't remember the event.An infant that never learned to start sleep alone is unlikely to do so in the night. 8- month-olds need: 14 hrs. sleep/24 hrs., 8-9 hrs. at night & 2-3 daily naps, which she gets. At a regular bedtime, feed her, then brush her teeth with a small smear of toothpaste. Read, cuddle, then put her to bed in her own room, drowsy but awake, without bottle or pacifier, to self-calm for sleep. Ignore the night-waking. Need evaluation: Clearly you're uncomfortable enough to need an in-person assessment with your doctor, as I have no idea what "vitamins and things" you've been taking or what drastic changes you have noticed. Insomnia can have many causes, and needs a full evaluation for best treatment. If it relates to depression, this needs addressing with psychotherapy and possibly medications, depending on severity. ...Read more

Difficulty falling: Asleep is often associated w/anxiety while waking up early and not returning to sleep is associated w/depression. Periodic waking is associated w/overall light sleep. Two options: First i think you may well be served quickly by getting in to the sleep clinic to monitor you while you sleep. Your family doctor can assist with this.
