Frenectomy (Overview)

The suffix "ectomy" means removal. A fenumectomy is the removal of part of the frenum. The labial frenum is the muscle on the inner part of the upper lip. The lingual frenum is the muscle that attaches the under part of the tongue to the bone in the front of the mouth.

Not too long: Usually there is pain like a canker sore in the mouth for 1 to 10 days. Using some dental numbing gel on the area can help. Babies can use some infant tylenol (acetaminophen) and toddlers and above can use children's Motrin for pain as well. The diet doesn't have to be restricted after the procedure.
