How can a frenectomy procedure work?

How can a frenectomy procedure work?

Simple to do: Generally, in young babies this is done with a snip in clinic under local anesthetic. In older babies and young children it is done in the operating room with anesthetic gas and a snip, possibly with melting sutures. In teens and adults, it can often be done in clinic with some numbing medicine and a snip. I'd put a few melting stitches as well. They can return to school/work right after.

How long is it supposed to it hurt after a frenectomy?

How long is it supposed to it hurt after a frenectomy?

Not too long: Usually there is pain like a canker sore in the mouth for 1 to 10 days. Using some dental numbing gel on the area can help. Babies can use some infant tylenol (acetaminophen) and toddlers and above can use children's Motrin for pain as well. The diet doesn't have to be restricted after the procedure. Good luck!

Is it possible for an upper frenectomy to cause a gummy smile?

Is it possible for an upper frenectomy to cause a gummy smile?

No: Frenectomy removes extra, thick, or improperly attached gum tissue from between front teeth. Gummy smile is from gum tissue on teeth placed too far down, short upper lip, vertical maxillary excess. Solution may be to reshape the gums, intrude the teeth, or surgically lift the upper jaw. Ask your Dentist if you should see Prosthodontist, Oral Surgeon, Orthodontist, or all three

Could my frenulum grow back after frenectomy?

Could my frenulum grow back after frenectomy?

No: As dr sandler said, not if done properly. What happens, however, is you get scar tissue in the surgical site that can interfere with tooth movement. For that reason orthodontists will first close the space between the front teeth before having the general dentist, periodontist, or oral surgeon recontour the connective tissue that comprises the frenum.

Do all frenectomies require the use of sutures?

Do all frenectomies require the use of sutures?

Frenulectomy: I like to use the absorbable sutures i. Order to ensure that the cut edges do not bleed. There is usually a small vessel that sits in the edge of the mucosa. Usually this procedure is done on young kids and the child and the young parents would get terrified if there was any bleeding post op. Plus the area heals better and faster with sutures. Good luck! Hope that helped.

I just had a frenectomy and fiberotomy. When will the space close?

As force is applied: I must assume that you are also having concurrent orthodontic treatment with braces or clear aligners. The space will not likely spontaneously close - some type of orthodontic force will be required. Depending upon the size of your diastema or space, it can typically be closed within weeks.
