I'm having trouble finding someone in the san antonio area that does genetic screening for frederick's ataxia? Any healthtap connections?
Some suggestions: The largest lab for genetic testing is athena in massachusetts. Major medical schools have sections on genetic disorders, such as harvard, johns hopkins, mayo clinic, ucla. Univ of texas, san antonio, division of neurology could likely help, but the texas system in dallas and houston can likely also assist. ...Read more
Hi I have sharp shoting pain in my right hand starting from my rist and going all over my thum and finger next to it what could it be?
Name of bones in wrist bone under middle figer at end of thum in wrist sticking out could it be broke and what is its name can you help me please thank you
"could it be broke". Did you fall or otherwise have a high-energy injury? If not then, no it cannot be broken.
If it feels broken, that is probably a misinterpretation of the pain. Pain always triggers and sets off our "safety system", making us feels protective and causing us to prepare for the worst ("it feels broken").
It's interesting that you want a name. Humans crave control and I assume you feel that if you could name the painful bone that you could feel a soothing sense of control.
I suggest that a visit to a hand surgeon is in order. He or she will likely tell you several things you are not expecting to hear. Even though most or all of them will be good news, just the fact that they are unexpected or counter-intuitive can make them a little unwelcome, so prepare yourself. Be ready for the "safety system" to have called "fire" when there is just smoke. Be prepared for something you find convincing ("it's broke") to be incorrect. ...Read more

Arthritis of thumb?: Can't be for sure what you have, but possibly some arthritis at the base of the thumb, especially if you use your hand/thumb a lot etc... If symptom has been ongoing and worsening for awhile, this is likely. If symptom comes on rather fast over couple of days, it could be gout--this can be very painful. Motrin/aleve may help.
