Different doses of prednisone for 1yr. Now on 40mg-asthma, respiratory infection. taking symbicort, (budesonide and formoterol) nebulizer, rescue inhaler.BP is high. is it meds?

Possibly: I am very concerned that you have been on prednisone for a year for asthma. That is not good at all. I think you need to step up your preventive asthma therapy, adding in other preventives to your inhaled steroid, among other things. See a specialist for this asap. Yes, the elevated BP may be steroid related. ...Read more

Is treating chronic cough with a combination of Budesonide+Formoterol Fumarate considered aggressive treaetment? Does benefit outweighs the risks?

Is treating chronic cough with a combination of Budesonide+Formoterol Fumarate considered aggressive treaetment? Does benefit outweighs the risks?

Depends on cause.: Technically, that would depend on the cause of your cough, and as such the treatment you mention wouldn't be aggressive as much as it would be misdirected. This would be fine for asthma or COPD, perhaps, but not for allergies or reflux, which can also cause a chronic cough. ...Read more

Is combivair 200 (budesonide + formoterol fumarate) only for Asthma or has other uses such as chronic cough control as well?

Is there a higher risk for side effects when switching to symbicort (budesonide and formoterol) 160/4.5 from 80/4.5?

Yes, but saves lives: Higher doses of inhaled steroids are associated with more local side effects such as hoarseness and thrush. These can be reduced with use of a spacer with your inhaler. Higher doses are also associated with an slight increased risk of pneumonia and may have an effect on your bone density over time. However, uncontrolled asthma is associated with a poor quality of life and increased mortality. ...Read more

Which is better: symbicort (budesonide and formoterol) or advair? Which generally has less side effects?

Very similar: Both are medications that contain two medicines - a long-acting beta agonist (laba), which helps with bronchodilation, and an inhaled steroid. The big difference is the form - advair is more an inhaled powder formulation, where symbicort (budesonide and formoterol) is a mist inhaler more like your rescue inhaler works if you use one with asthma or copd.So it really boils down to what your insurance covers and preference type. ...Read more

Take the dulera (formoterol and mometasone): If you are young and healthy and truly have asthma, Dulera (formoterol and mometasone) would be a good choice as a controller medication for asthma. If you are scared to take it, sit down with the doctor who prescribed it for you and ask them questions about your fears regarding the medication. I think that if you do you will feel much better about taking it. ...Read more
