Could every breath of polluted air you take contribute to your dioxin body burden, causing mutagenic, carcinogenic, and neurotoxic effects?
Whoa: You're reading disinformation. Dioxins aren't even mutagens. I'm sorry you found this stuff -- which is made up by "advocates" to get political benefits -- and that it's gotten you all worried. But you can't go through life like this. Look around you. People in the developed world have never been healthier. Be grateful, and stop letting your mind be darkened in this way. ...Read more

Any DETRIMENTAL EFFECTS of long term (TOPICAL) isotretinoin/erythromtcin use on the skin? Like premature aging? Been using it on/off 11 yrs for acne.
I have never heard: of topical isotretinoin(that is accutane) do you mean tretinoin (or retin A)? Topical retinoic acid will not hurt and can help as it stimulates new collagen and thickens the epidermis. Topcial erythromycin is just a topical antibiotic. Tracers contain a small amount of a radioactive isotope that decays naturally over time and is eliminated in the urine and stool. Most nuclear med procedures are painless except for mild discomfort associated with the iv. Allergic reactions to tracers are rare. Inform the tech if you could be pregnant. ...Read more
Would accidently inhaling pesticides and herbicides on your farm as a kid cause any type of health risks?
Some raise risk.: Phenoxy herbicides are often contaminated with dioxins like tcdd, which research suggests results in a small rise in cancer risk after exposure to these herbicides. Triazine exposure has been implicated in a likely relationship to increased risk of breast cancer, although it is unclear if it causes it. Exposure to herbicides, like paraquat and pesticides increases risk for parkinson's disease. ...Read more

Any insight on the effects of magnesium powder flash on the retina, and specifically how long of exposure causes permanent damage? Thank you!
Can Damage vision: Exceedingly bright light light a powder flash can burn the retina and cause a permanent scotoma (black spot) in the vision. Eye protection is recommended whenever working with this substance. The longer the exposure, the more likely the retina is to sustain a burn. Very short exposures will leave an afterimage, which can last hours or days, but won't cause permanent damage. ...Read more
What's the latest research on the interaction/detrimental effects of vitamin a (eg from raw carrots) on vitamin D3 (from sunlight) effectiveness?
Militant fringe: This is at present a fringe idea, primarily the work of a handful of pro-vitamin-d, anti-vitamin-a militants on anti-doctor websites; the centerpiece is a 2009 number-crunch journal article on vitamin d levels and colon cancer with a tiny sidebar on vitamin a. I hesitate to draw cause-and-effect conclusions from studies based only on statistics without an obvious mechanism. ...Read more

A small splash of mild chemical that us rinsed out immediately from the eyes may have no long term effect. However getting a strong acid or base (like pool chemicals) into the eyes can cause severe scarring of the cornea. It is always best to rinse the eye thoroughly then seek medical he. ...Read more
