Does olive oil extra virgin and pure coconut oil penetrate hair shaft? Are these oils even worth it to condition & strengthen hair/scalp?
Perhaps: Oils do indeed penetrate the skin. Many things penetrate the skin. Indeed, some say that you should not put anything on your skin you are not willing to eat or drink, including your makeup n rubbing alcoh. Not necessary: The key to healthy skin is avoid sun exposure & smoking. Important skincare includes exfoliation, collagen stimulation & sun protection on a daily basis. Antioxidant serums can help prevent sun damage & skin cancer, & some contribute to collagen stimulation. Anything apparently: By definition, "alternative" is different than modern western medicine. Generally any drug, herb, treatment, or oil that stands up to rigorous scientific scrutiny is included in modern medicine. Coconut oil and...: Coconut oil is a great choice- it has many health benefits and tolerates high heat better than olive oil. Ghee (clarified butter) is another good choice, especially if organic. My Opinion Only: The best way to ensure the healthiest hair is to be the healthiest YOU can be. Your general nutrition is the major contributor to healthy hair. The hair you see "on" so called celebrities more likely than not take HOURS of PROFESSIONAL work to obtain and "last" ONLY as LONG as the appearance or performance!! Exercise : LDL can be lowered with diet and exercise. At that level, without any other medical problems, nonsmoking, no family members with heart disease, it is not unreasonable to do a trial of diet and exercise, but it will take a lot of work.
