Blood work shows excessive amount of b12 >1999. Its been 3 weeks since B12 supplements were stopped. How long does it take B12 levels to go down?
How much gap betwen antacid & B12 sublingual 1500mcg. can we take multivit, calcium carb(500mg) same time as B12 supp? how much gap for vit c & b12?
Wouldn't take: antacid at the same time you are taking your supplements b/c you are reducing UR stomach acidity further that you need that to digest or help your MVI (multivitamin) get absorbed better. B12 can be taken alone sublingual. It's not digested. You can take it along with your MVI (multivitamin), and Vitamin C. Space your calcium tablet separately as it can act like an antacid itself (Tums?) Greens can interfere with Ca absorption. ...Read more
Yes it is safe: But my question is why you are taking these doses. Raising the serum level does not really matter at all. It is the intracellular level that matters and we cannot measure that. It is your overall health that decides the issue. ...Read more
It depends: About 40% of those over 60 are deficient in B12 (and many under 60 as well). While the dri is only 2.6 mcg it is poorly absorbed so only about 10 mcg of a 500 mcg dose is absorbed. If one eats lots of animal foods ; had adequate hydrochloric acid ; good digestion they may not need to take any, but 1000 mcg of methylcobalamin is good if deficient or for insurance- see http://bit.Ly/1607tg3. ...Read more

Yes: You may try oral B12 first, if that does not raise the level, then you would need injection of B12. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. ...Read more
What meds are available for B12 deficiency? What are side affect of each? (injectible meds my B12 levels were 169).
Methylcobalamin: Injectable B12 is the surest way to increase your B12 levels. Injections are usually administered weekly, but i occasionally prescribe them on a daily basis. Methylcobalamin is the most bio-available form of b12, but is slightly more expensive than the traditional cyancobalamin form. Sublingual methylcobalamin is the next most effective way to restore tissue B12 levels. No adverse effects. ...Read more

No hx of DM or HIV. Recurrent yeast infections. 4 in the last 5 months. Treated each time with improvement. How to treat plus maintenance?
Thorough evaluation : recurrent yeast infections does not have to mean diabetes. Remember the successful treatment means the antifungal medication and clean underwear everyday, sometimes completely new underwear. You need to then get the flora back to normal. You are not alone and this does happen to many patients. Don't get discouraged. Watch what you are eating and sometimes take antibiotic with antifungal. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
