If this is not the case, anatomical alterations of the cervical spine might give you an impresion of muscle shortening if that is what you are refering to and is positional. Diffuse bilateral changes in the neck and the face and head are migh be related to a myofascial syndrome, but again this again will bgive pain and discomfort. Good question!: More history would be helpful including when it started etc. There are lesions in the brain which could result in one sided pain or muscle spasms., but they are quite rare. I would tend to look for a practitioner skilled in Chinese medicine/acupuncture for a possible solution.
