Foot Wound That Won T Heal
Top of foot started to exhibit pain then followed by itching nerves then more pain and now a wound that don't Wish to heal. Pain and itch still remain?
Depends on a lot:
Is the needle or portion of it in your foot? An infection can cause delayed healing and pain. Did you have a tetanus shot in last 5 years? Are you diabetic? Those with poor ciculation or immunocompomised will have delayed or no healing.
By the way, how long has it been? An uncomplicated stick from a needle if cared for properly in a healthy person should heal within 10 to n14 days. ...Read more

How long can it take for Tendonitis and slight tear in tendon in the foot to heal? It’s been three months for me
Rehabilitation: Dear Nicole, an injury to the Achilles' tendon can take a while to heal. But your question is difficult to answer without a physical examination. There could be a trigger point in the calve muscles. It also depends on the mechanism of injury. Three weeks is long. Had a patient recently that rolled her calve on a foam roller and within 2 days pain improved. But a good examination needed ...Read more

Will wearing a foot brace help heal midfoot ligament tear faster or is that more appropriate for a ankle tear?
Rest, time, PT, Rx: Midfoot ligament tear will heal with rest and minimal immobilization. Ultrasound therapy is helpful. Injecting platelet rich plasma may help. An NSID is ok if you are able to tolerate the drug. I like the idea of your wearing a brace - it serves as a reminder to rest the foot. ...Read more

Depends on wound.: If you have a wound as a result of a surgical incision then usually local care with keeping it clean, a topical antibacterial ointment and a dressing should heal it. If it is a venous ulcer, then you would need a full venous evaluation with a venous reflux sonogram and closure of any refluxing valves. It would be wise for you to see a vein specialist for an evaluation. ...Read more
Yaser medical student 2nd year : a 50 years old patient 2 years ago he is paralyzed on left side, he has a wound on his right toe which does not heal?
Something is wrong:
Gosh, why wait sooooo long?
What has gone on during that period of time....this is way too long of a time period for this to be going on. Did it heal and then perhaps come back? Mor never healed? Did the doctor attempt to redo the procedure? Sometimes nail spicule is left behind, or a cyst develops.....you need to get this fixed. I'd also get xrays to make sure no bone involvement. ...Read more

I have a wound which is 1 cm wide and 5 mm deep near my big toe on the left leg. It was cleaned and dressed tightly. Will it heal without stitches?
Yes: In clean fresh wounds, we often stitch/suture incision together to minimize scarring. In older dirty wounds, we often leave it open to air (no stitches/sutures) to allow healing from within. This is more likely to cause scarring but we don't want close dirty old wounds out of fear of trapping bacteria in wound. So yes, wounds can heal w/o sutures but will take time & most likely end w/scar. ...Read more
Have tear in ligament in my ankle. Not small. No insurance, and am getting free steroid shots. Have boot. Can this heal on own. Not should it, but can i?
May be worse: A steroid may feel good because of the anesthetic with it, but the steroid actually delays healing if the ligament is really torn. At your age, don't guess about this and get this checked properly! Even without insurance, there may be some county/city clinic assistance available. Ask! If you use mobility and stability in your ankle, it can cause further pain and suffering in later years! ...Read more
Had surgery for ingrown toenail 8 days ago and the wound still bleeds sometimes. How long it takes to heal in diabetes and why it still bleeds & pain?
It should heal soon,: If not have the doc recheck it. An ingrown usually heals just a few days after it's excised. I tell patients to come back if it's not better in 4-5 days. Many times I have to go back and get some smaller pieces because even the smallest piece of debris retained can cause a problem. Diabetes and poor circulation can slow healing but 8 days is a bit much for that. Don't be afraid :) ...Read more
Hi doc, I have a small wound on the side of my big toe next to the nail that will not heal. I cover it with neosporin and a bandaid twice a day.
Start Now, not later: Normally, small open wounds are not a problem, but when they will not heal, then you must take action. These small wounds, given time, can become large, troublesome wounds. Some potential concerns are blood supply to the toe, history of diabetes, infection and irritation of the wound. More than likely, this problem ends when these concerns are investigated, identified and corrected by a doctor. ...Read more

Partial tendon tear or stress fracture in my ankle area on both legs. What can I do to heal it? How long usually does it take?
It can take a while:
Tendons receive a relatively poor blood supply, and can take a long time to heal. You need to rest it as much as possible. As hard as it might be, what rests that area better than anything is a non-weight bearing cast, and even this may take a couple of months.
Wish I had better news. Good luck and feel better! ...Read more

Natural Process: When there is injury to our skin, inflammation occurs which means the area becomes red, warm, tender and with swelling. The swelling occurs under the skin layers and then can leak out of an open wound. The fluid contains water, protein, electrolytes and cells that give it color. This is a natural process and aids in healing. As it heals, the drainage will decrease. Keep it covered. ...Read more
