What foods are good & which are bad for a gluten free diet?

Gluten free: Anything containing gluten (wheat , barley, non gluten-free oat) is bad, others such as meat, corn, rice, fruits, vegetable, eggs, dairy are all good unless contaminated. However unless you are gluten intolerant the only benefit you may get is weight loss from having to avoid so many of your favorite foods.

Which foods may be consumed on a gluten free diet?

Foods without gluten: Gluten-free means the food or drink does not contain gluten, a protein found in such grains as wheat, rye, and barley (including malted barley). Grains that do not contain gluten include corn, rice, millet, quinoa, sorghum, & buckwheat. Oats & oatmeal don't have the gluten protein, but have another protein that some celiac disease patients react to, while other celiac patients may not react with.

Can't lose weight: The secret to losing weight is very simple. Eat fewer calories than u burn. It always works. The trick is 2 find out how many calories this is u you. I recommend u get Loseit app and track all of your exercise calories and your food calories. Doing what U are doing now for 2 weeks. Then set ur alorie intake 2 500 less than what u have been eating and u will lose about a lb a week. Without fail.

I was diagnose with celiac disease after being misdiagnose repeatedly. Gluten-free diet helps but i'm unemployed & the food's expensive. What do I do?

Not expensive: Buying and cooking rice is not expensive, eating legumes such as chickpeas and lentils, red beans and black beans with the rice is not expensive. There are many inexpensive beans and grains that make a whole protein, provide carbohydrates and good nutrition on a celiac diet. Peanut butter also is not expensive for a jar.

Is it easy to follow a gluten free diet?

In Theory: In theory yes, but in practice it is harder because so much of our current american food contains gluten in some form. Rice, potatoes, fruit vegetables, and meat are all permitted. You have to read labels closely because sometimes gluten can be added as fillers in things like hot dogs.

What does it mean to be on a gluten free diet?

Think twice...: Skipping foods with wheat flour, barley, rye without knowing whether it's necessary can mean missing out on essential nutrients like iron & B vitamins. And gluten-free fare can be most costly & caloric. Bottom line: if you suspect that you have a gluten sensitivity, get tested for celiac disease before you entirely eliminate gluten from your diet.
