If so you have more than, you should be on ace-inhibitors and/or angiotensin receptor blockers which both reduce one's blood pressure and proteinuria. Only indirectly: A high sugar diet can cause signficant weight gain. That can increase blood pressure in and of itself. If one has diabetes, it becomes even more complicated. A higher sugar diet can reduce diabetes control which can worsen blood pressure and more importantly increase the risk of heart disease from high blood pressure. Simple is better: Fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grain, and less salt. The more processed the food is, the more likelihood is that it will contain salt and other preservatives that may adversely affect bp. Also, increasing exercise and weight loss help. No: Bananas are high in potassium and may be good for cramping (if they are related to low potassium) they may have a very minimal and indirect effect in BP and they are not part of the management/ treatment of hbp and neither is garlic, another myth.
