Small risk: Taking the Elavil (amitriptyline) and melatonin leads to a small but measurable chance for what is called the Serotonin Syndrome. If not that then, there is the chance that those 2 together can make you sleepier or drowsy. I've never had a patient suffer from that while on that combo but to be on the extra safe side I believe it's good to heed the warnings. Possibly: There is some information available that by combining these two chemicals the L theanine may reduce the anxiety and vasoconstriction (temporarily making blood vessels smaller resulting in hypertension for example) associated with caffeine.
