Foods Low In Potassium
My mother has a high potassium level and was told to not eat bananas, yams. What foods are low in potassium?
HIgh potassium level: Did a doctor order your blood test? Did you speak to him? Perhaps you need to see a neprhologist to see what is causing your high potassiumn (k) level in your blood. If you have normal kidney function, your k would not be elevated. Please see a nephrologist to have an examination and take some blood work. Eating a diet low in k probably is not the answer to your high k level in your blood. ...Read more
Low potassium 3mmol/l for the last month? Have been eating high potassium foods and it has not increased?
Need more info.: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Serum potassium 3.8, been eating lots of bananas and potassium rich food. Why is it on low normal? If I quit this diet, will it drop?
K regulation: Body very tightly regulates levels of sodium and potassium which affect nerve conduction and heart beat. Don't worry so much about the actual numbers. That's what your kidneys are doing every second. If you eat too much potassium your kidneys will just pee it out, too little, and it will tightly hold on to it. Worry about other things in your life, not your K levels. ...Read more

Low potassium from poor diet. Corrected with high pot. foods and dr said im ok. Last test 5.0. Can it get too high from food, should i eat less of it?
Very difficult: if your kidney function is normal it is difficult to "overdose" on potassium because your kidneys excrete the excess. Having said that, it would be prudent to keep your overall potassium consumption where it is right now or slightly lower to keep your potassium at about 4-4.5 meq/dl. ...Read more
Is a potassium level of 3.6 low enough (while on lasix) to justify taking Klor-Con 8, or can you just eat more foods with potassium in them?
Depends: It depends on 1)whether you're prone to arrhythmias (if so, you need to have a higher potassium) 2) if going up, down or is stable 3) was your dose of Lasix recently increased? If your renal function is ok, a better drug than potassium is spironolactone which is a small pill, easy to swallow, cheap as water, corrects low potassium, and is good for cardiac function. ...Read more
