Foods that are rich in folic acid without supplement?

Vegetables: Folate (folic acid) from vegetables is better absorbed raw. Diets adequate in methionine have a sparing effect on folate (folic acid)s (folic acid). But folate (folic acid) in food is easily lost, so some supplementation is a good idea. My preferred brand of b complex is advanced b complex made by aor. ...Read more

Looking for information on B12 and folate (folic acid) deficiency in vegetarians?

B12 deficient common: Being vegetarian may reduce risk of folate (folic acid) deficiency, as the best sources of folate (folic acid) are dark leafy greens, lentils, beans, broccoli & asparagus. However, fruits & vegies generally don't contain b12, so vegetarians are at risk of B12 deficiency.Eggs and dairy products do have b12, but even vegetarians who eat those average less than half the rda of b12. Is it good to have a drink which contains soy protein, hi-maize, vitamin (a c B6 b12), thiamin b1, niacin b3, folate, (folic acid) sodium, potassium in pregnancy ?

Is it good to have a drink which contains soy protein, hi-maize, vitamin (a c B6 b12), thiamin b1, niacin b3, folate, (folic acid) sodium, potassium in pregnancy ?

Which form: Which forms the vitamins are can matter. For example, B6 comes inactive and also active. The active form of B6 is pyridoxal-5-phosphate. Too much inactive B6 can actually block active B6 from the B6 receptor, creating symptoms of B6 deficiency. Folic acid is synthetic, and too much can be bad also. Methylfolate and folinic acid are what one should take during pregnancy. ...Read more

Which foods increase good cholesterol, vitamin d and vitamin b12?

Not much: Very few. Unsaturated plant fats may help increase HDL a little, as will small amounts of alcohol. Vitamin d is made in your skin in response to light exposure. It is found in many foods, such as dairy products, but most are supplemented. What kind of supplement has activated folate (folic acid) and is typically recommended over Folic Acid suppliments?

Green leafy plants: I'm more of an advocate of getting your vitamins from FOOD, not from a bottle - where the substances within have been processed. Folate (or folic acid) is found naturally in green leafy plants - the name actually derives from 'foliage' or 'leaves'. So I advocate eating fresh veggies/plants. That type of diet also provides different minerals, micronutrients, anti-oxidants, fiber etc. that you need. ...Read more

Can acid reflux worsen by taking biotin, b12, omega 3 fish tabs. vitamin k2 , buffered vitamin c,vitamin d3 have Barrett's Esophagus and a hernia.

Possibly fish oil: Fats including fish oil can sometimes aggravate reflux; this is less likely if taken with food. But certain supplements are proven beneficial for reflux, esp. melatonin. Folic acid and pre-natal vitamins does one need to take folic acid in addition to pre-natal vitamins, or should pre-natal vitamins suffice since it already includes folic acid?

Hello. : Hello. Prenatal vitamins are different than regular multiple vitamins in a couple of ways. They have more folic acid, calcium and iron than a regular multiple vitamin. Vitamin a levels are often reduced. Some prenatal vitamins contain folate which is in a more bioavailable form (5-methyltetrahydrofolate). So normally you would not need to add a separate Folic Acid pill with your prenatal vitamin. Take care. ...Read more

Previous ida. Now high B12 and folate (folic acid) levels. Ferritin result is not back. Significant hair loss and sob? Could high folate (folic acid) mask B12 deficiency? Thx

Masks anemia only: High folate (folic acid) can mask megaloblastic anemia caused by B12 deficiency but does not affect B12 levels. The high B12 levels you have are proof that you don't have B12 deficiency. I don't know what ida is. Hair loss ; sob can have many causes. It sounds like you are being evaluated for possible causes. ...Read more

What's difference in taking folate verses folic acid in a supplement?

What's difference in taking folate verses folic acid in a supplement?

Folate (folic acid) better form: Folate (folic acid) is the naturally-occuring form that occurs in foods, whereas Folic Acid is a synthetic form. While Folic Acid is better absorbed, our bodies need to convert it to the active form, l-5-mthf & about 1/3 of people have trouble making this conversion. Excess Folic Acid may be hazardous.See http://blog.Designsforhealth.Com/blog/bid/115121/folic-acid-vs-folate-part-i & my comment for link to pt 2. ...Read more
