I had a barium swallow test done and they said that I have a blockage in the esophagus. They need to do a camera scope. Could it be a tumor?

Most likely not: Most likely not but needs to be ruled out! At your age most likely is related to reflux. The esophagus can create a ring that tries to keep acid in the stomach. However, be diligent and get that scope done ...Read more

My symptoms are, food is not passing through my esophagus easily, seems like it gets stuck midway my chest area. No nausea, but increasing discomft??

Blockage: It sounds like there is a blockage in your feeding tube or esophagus. The pain is from food getting stuck on the way to your stomach. I would recommend a liquid diet with yogurt, Ensure and water. A barium swallow x-ray would be helpful to find where food is getting stuck. As we get older, nerves may not work as well and irritation in esophagus can occur. If you are vomiting blood, go to ER. ...Read more

Can not chewing well & swallowing food tear esophagus? Chest hurt when swallowing cookie. Afterwards no symptoms, but can it be torn asymptomatically?

Can not chewing well & swallowing food tear esophagus? Chest hurt when swallowing cookie. Afterwards no symptoms, but can it be torn asymptomatically?

Unlikely: A complete tear of the esophagus from normal food would be very unlikely, and you'd know it if it happened (think lots of blood and pain). Esophageal stasis is a condition where normal motility in the esophagus is decreased, leading to pain and difficulty swallowing. The swallowing of hard crunchy foods can cause superficial but painful scratches to the lining of the esophagus. ...Read more

My body can't digest a lot of food at one time. It takes days. Could there be an intestinal blockage?

My body can't digest a lot of food at one time. It takes days. Could there be an intestinal blockage?

Likely constipation: It actually sounds like your constipated and not a blockage. It should not take days for food to pass through your body. Usually it should only take about a day. For constipation, I would advise you first increase your fluid intake. Maybe around 3-4 glasses of water. Then increase your fiber content. Look for cereals that have a high fiber content. Fiber one has 14 g of fiber in one bowl. ...Read more

Can food poisoning cause an intestinal blockage?
This happened 3 years ago and I had an illeostomy and I'm going back in a few days for reversal surge

Intestinal blockage: Food poisoning characteristically causes nausea, vomiting and diarrhea but not intestinal obstruction. The latter is caused by tumor, chronic scarring from diverticulitis of the colon or by intestinal adhesions. Less common causes are intersusception, incarcerated hernia, or volvulus. Your surgeon is best qualified to tell you the cause of your obstruction and need for temporary colostomy. ...Read more

How is it ok if u have a reg stress tst its normal but u can still be walking around with blockage or clot and not know it are there symptoms?

Possible, but...: A regular stress test is about 60-70% accurate at picking up blockages. The good news is, though, that it is pretty good at picking severe blockages, especially if >1 artery is blocked. As to a "clot" -- clots cause "Heart Attacks" --not subtle. A 41 yo woman with a normal stress test is unlikely to have significant blockage.

As always, please speak to your own physician/cardiologist to be sure ...Read more

In cad, when is blockage of an artery large enough that compensation is insufficient, and symptoms may present?

In cad, when is blockage of an artery large enough that compensation is insufficient, and symptoms may present?

Time: The shortest answer here is that it depends on how long the blockage has been present. If it slowly developes over time then the heart has the ability to develop collateral flow through other vessels... Thus making up for the trouble. However, if the blockage developes quickly... There is no chance to compensate. ...Read more

Had ecoli uti, took AB, symptoms didn't go away, got retested @ 24 days and ecoli gone, now have morganella morganii 10^8cfu. No stones. US no blockage?

Morganella: This bacteria can be resistant to the major groups of antibiotics and that could help explain its presence. The important question is -- 'is it causing disease'? This question would be answered by whether you have symptoms or not, and whether there are markers of infection in your urine test (like increased WBCs). Hopefully indeed there is nothing wrong with your urinary tract. Talk with doctor. ...Read more

Hi there. I went to the er for bronchitis symptoms- they found a right branch blockage but acted as if it was no big deal. Blood work (whatever they t?

Bronchial disease: Well sometimes in the ER their attitude is more focused on the emergencies, and they didn't see this as an emergency. There is a list of things that could cause this problem — and perhaps they figured it out. BUT I would definitely follow this up with your primary doctor, and most likely a lung doctor. Those docs have the tools to follow you (i.e. bronchoscopy) and make sure you pull through OK. ...Read more

Incomplete bowel obstruction? Feels like a blockage or the colon closes after halfway through the bowel. No other symptoms, stool is fine.

Constipation?: It sounds like you have the feeling of incomplete stool evacuation during a bowel movement. A bowel obstruction usually is a mechanical obstruction on the intestine caused by scar tissue from previous operations, hernias, masses in the intestine, ect.
