Medicated shampoo: Typically I have patients try an over the counter medicated shampoo such as head and shoulders or Nizoral (ketoconazole) to start, but if that is not effective, i give them a prescription shampoo and sometimes a topical antibiotic to control this pesky condtion. Same thing, almost: There is not a whole lot of difference between the two. Pimple starts as blockage of pores of follicles and goes to inflammation. Folliculits starts as bacterial infection of the follicle. They end up with a similar result.
