Can u take folic acid tablets and multi vitamins tablet containing folic acid each day? Is that over dosing?

Can u take folic acid tablets and multi vitamins tablet containing folic acid each day? Is that over dosing?

Depends: Dose depends on the condition being treated (anemia, sprue, pregnancy). Generally a total intake more than 1 (one) mg a day is associated with a higher incidence of side effects like loss of appetite, nausea, gas, abd pain, irritability, etc. Check with your fp if you have further questions about safe amount of folic acid. ...Read more

Folic Acid (Definition)

Folic acid, AKA folate (folic acid) (vit B9), is recommended for all women wanting to get pregnant -- 0.4mg (400mcg) daily, which is important for preventing birth defects like spina bifida. Women w/ a hx these disorders should take 10x that amt daily -- 4mg (4000mcg) through the 3rd month of pregnancy. It won't affect fertility, chances of conception/twins, or periods. ...Read more

Has anybody heard of using vitamin b and folate (folic acid) to prevent birth defects?

Has anybody heard of using vitamin b and folate (folic acid) to prevent birth defects?

See below: Folate (folic acid) is definitely needed to prevent abnormalities of the spinal cord. Ass for vitamin b, I am unaware of any birth defects associated with low vitamin b levels. Maybe one of the obstetricians on the site will know. ...Read more

Could you take prenatal vitamins that contain biotin, choline, inositol, and fumaric acid name of vitamin brand nordic berries?

Could you take prenatal vitamins that contain biotin, choline, inositol, and fumaric acid name of vitamin brand nordic berries?

I do not: Like the formula. They contain 9 grams of carbohydrate and the amount of thiamin (as are the doses of all the vitamins) is too low to metabolize that amount of carb. You can look it up on line. This expresses an incredible ignorance of industry in vitamins and foods. In pregnancy, first you need a pristine diet and the vitamin supplementation should be ordered by your ob/gyn. ...Read more

Do prenatal vitamins contain enough amount of folic acid or I should take additional folic acid for the health of the baby?

Do prenatal vitamins contain enough amount of folic acid or I should take additional folic acid for the health of the baby?

Consider L-5MTHF: Prenatal vits. Contain enough Folic Acid for most people but about 1/3 of people have difficulty converting Folic Acid (which is synthetic) to the active form, l-5-methyltetrahydrofolate (l-5-mthf) and 10% can 't convert it at all. A test for the mthfr gene is the only way to know for sure but it doesn't hurt to take 400 mcg of l-5-mthf to be safe and to eat dark leafy greens & other diet sources. ...Read more

Hi, I'm taking pregnacare, vitamin e 400iu, folic acid 800mcg. I'm planning to conceive, are these supplements all safe together, thanks.

Unecessary: Pregnacare contains 400mcg Folic Acid, which is the amount recommended to take before and during conception to reduce the risk of neural tube defects. It is not necessary to take more or Vitamin E supplement as well. Take care and best wishes! ...Read more

Folic acid and pre-natal vitamins does one need to take folic acid in addition to pre-natal vitamins, or should pre-natal vitamins suffice since it already includes folic acid?

Folic acid and pre-natal vitamins does one need to take folic acid in addition to pre-natal vitamins, or should pre-natal vitamins suffice since it already includes folic acid?

Hello. : Hello. Prenatal vitamins are different than regular multiple vitamins in a couple of ways. They have more folic acid, calcium and iron than a regular multiple vitamin. Vitamin a levels are often reduced. Some prenatal vitamins contain folate which is in a more bioavailable form (5-methyltetrahydrofolate). So normally you would not need to add a separate Folic Acid pill with your prenatal vitamin. Take care. ...Read more

Possibly fish oil: Fats including fish oil can sometimes aggravate reflux; this is less likely if taken with food. But certain supplements are proven beneficial for reflux, esp. melatonin. What kind of supplement has activated folate (folic acid) and is typically recommended over Folic Acid suppliments?

What kind of supplement has activated folate (folic acid) and is typically recommended over Folic Acid suppliments?

Green leafy plants: I'm more of an advocate of getting your vitamins from FOOD, not from a bottle - where the substances within have been processed. Folate (or folic acid) is found naturally in green leafy plants - the name actually derives from 'foliage' or 'leaves'. So I advocate eating fresh veggies/plants. That type of diet also provides different minerals, micronutrients, anti-oxidants, fiber etc. that you need. ...Read more

Can i take folic acid 800 mcg, biotin 5000 mcg and multivitamins together?

Yes, qualified : Folic acid is metabolized to methyl folate. In some individuals this step is inefficient and metylfolate may be a better choice. Some people have adverse reactions to high dose folic acid. Biotin is generally considered safe. This high dose would be inappropriate during pregnancy. Add one at a time and listen to your body's response. ...Read more

Is ok if I am taking a prenatal vitamins that has 800mcg of folic acid, and take another folic acid vitamin thar has 400mcg???

Its fine: Up to about 1000mcg or 1 mg is perfectly fine and this is just 1200 mcg. However, in the 400mcg pill you said folic acid vitamin. I am assuming you mean just a folic acid supplement and not a multivitamin. You can get too much of things like vitamin A, so just be aware of that. ...Read more

Taking 2.5mg bisoprolol but also take various supplements worried about interactions garlic, folic acid, selenium, cod liver, Q10, evening primrose, vit e.

Sups. No Evidence: Supplements widely promoted, big business, but exempted from clinical trials, even need for honesty/accuracy on labels; see DSHEA Act 1994 which exempted all food supplements, thus no reliable data about group, much less individual benefits & downsides. Carvedilol has better track record than bisoprolol (both with ACEI) for heart function, mortality rates; yet both can ? lung bronchospasm, COPD. ...Read more
