My doc says im aneamic and has prescribed me dexorange syrup it has iron folic acid and vitamin B12 but im afraid will it giv me any side effects?
Anemia treatmemt: Other than possible constipation, caused by iron, the syrup (s) your physician (p) prescribed will give harmless. Ask your p what you folate, (folic acid) iron and B12 values are. If they are normal, you will gain nothing by the s. Anemia can come from blood loss, either by GI or menstrual losses. Is it true that folic acid and green tea supplements help fight cervical dysplasia and HPV? Any side effects?
Adjunct only: The claims about green tea are based on Petri dish work. I think it's rubbish. You will pee out any folic acid beyond that your body needs. HPV is ubiquitous but if you have dysphasia and do not comply with treatment that is essentially 100% effective if done on time, it can cost you your life. Be discerning and good luck. ...Read more
My doctor has put me on 5mg folic acid daily. Is this causing my stomach upset? What side effects are common? I have low folic acid
Your stomach upset is not likely to be related to your folic acid intake. It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without examining you. If the symptoms persist more than 3-4 days, you should consult your doctor.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. I have a vitiligo and I am taking 1000mcg vitamin b12, 800mcg folic acid, 300mg a-lipoic acid and taking daily sunlight, does all these hav any side eff?
All very safe:
Vits. B12, Folic Acid and Alpha Lipoic Acid are all very safe without side effects. B12 and a-lipoic acid are in many foods. Folic acid is actually synthetic but we covert it folate, found in food. About half of people have trouble converting folic acid to folate so you might be better off taking the L-5-MTHF form of folate.

Aspirin should not be used during pregnancy *unless prescribed by a doctor*; it is commonly prescribed to treat antiphospholipid syndrome (which can lead to miscarriages) and preeclampsia. ...Read more

Hi Docs: If + for 2 MTHFR genes, what are possible effects on body from foods high in folate (folic acid)? And is it typical to have lowish (<6) serum folate (folic acid)?
Need more not less!: If you have a problem with two MTHFR genes, you actually need folic acid supplementation. Foods high in folate will help you not hurt you. I usually recommend 4mg of folic acid a day, along with 1000ug of B-12 and 100mg B-6 per day and a bab aspirin. Some women with the MTHFR defect have repeated miscarriages. In my experience, the above supplements decrease the risk of this. Best wishes! ...Read more
I am 14 weeks pregnant and I don't take folic acid is this wrong or have any effects on the baby?
Depends on diet: Folic acid dramatically decreases risk of a group of birth defects known as neural tube defects. It is most important in the first 6 weeks of pregnancy and is best started before conception. However, the vast majority of women who don't take it in early pregnancy have healthy babies. Many foods (esp. Wheat) are enriched with Folic Acid and many foods (esp. Greens and beans) supply folate (folic acid). ...Read more
