I take 4 mg of folic acid per day with 10 mg Methotrexate weekly. Is this too much folic acid?

I take 4 mg of folic acid per day with 10 mg Methotrexate weekly. Is this too much folic acid?

Probably too much: Methotrexate seems to deplete the body of folic acid, and, while controversial, most rheumatologists recommend supplementation. The most common dose is 1 mg per day, but doses range from 5 - 10 mg weekly. 4 mg/day seems higher than usually recommended. There is some concern that too much folic acid might reduce the effectiveness of Methotrexate. Needs review with your doctor. Good wishes! ...Read more

I'm being treated for pcos since 5 mths my doc has given me metaformin1700mg per day n idomarine tablet its iodine complex and folic acid 400mg is it k?

PCOS treatment: That's a fair treatment for PCOS. Without knowing your medical history, anything else you are on, or any risk factors you have, and assuming the doctor that is prescribing you the medication does, I would stick with what they have given you, and discuss with them if you have concerns. Good luck to you! ...Read more

Can I have folic acid capsules twice a day?

It depends: Most pregnant women do not need more than 1, 000 mcg of Folic Acid daily (in a supplement form). You do not need to monitor your dietary Folic Acid intake. In some cases, such as twin pregnancy or a previous birth of a baby with a neural tube defect, doses up to 4, 000 mcg are recommended. I do not advise you take the higher dosage unless instructed to by your provider. ...Read more
