?Not anemic: Your rbc is low, but hct is probably at the bottom of normal. The other lab values are all normal. This discrepancy between rbc and hct usually means either your red cells are unusually big, or something is interfering with the counting. This can happen with a cold agglutinin (red cells clump in the cold), excessive alcohol, liver problems, or low thyroid. Given other symptoms, check thyroid. ...Read more

Blood tests: There are a few diseases that leap out from blood tests. Most of the time, however, blood tests don't tell the doctor much on their own. These results fall into the second group. Good health to you. It is reassuring that the results do not consistently keep rising. ...Read more

Normocyt, WNL RDW, anemia-hgb 13, rbc 4.3. PO Fe for 1 yr w/ no improvement. Fe 58, ferritin 15, TIBC 347. Asymptomatic. Thoughts on IV iron?

Too aggressive: With the numbers you're presenting I'm not sure who put the idea of doing IV iron into your thought process. Hb-13 for age 74 isn't far off of expected norms for age. If you want to do SOMETHING check thyroids, serum zinc, serum magnesium, & serum Vitamin D. Eat more spinach, beans, dried fruit, seafood, & poultry. My blood test results:
total bilirubin: 1.41 h
ast: 40 h
alt: 100 h
total alk phosphatase: 43 l
serum total protein: 7.1

e.R. Said hepatitis?

Let's try this...: I have only a little bit of the story you've shared. Perhaps it's time to see whether the ast and alt get back to normal after two weeks off alcohol and any not-totally-necessary meds you may be taking. If so, this is the start of a healthier life after alcohol. If not, the workup for virus infections, iron overload, wilson's, autoimmunity & need for exercise can begin. Good luck. ...Read more

Are these labs cause for concern? Calcium 8.7 L Creatinine 0.61 L Anion Gap 13.9 H Epithelial Cells- Many WBC-10-20

May be WBC: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, I trust the WBC 10-20 was in urine. If so, it should be repeated with proper urine collection of mid-stream specimen, after cleaning the external genitalia. Your doctor can advise on proper collection technique. Others are okay. ...Read more

Difficult case: it is a complicated case obviously. first and foremost the infection has to be treated. i would suggest you to follow up with ID and oncologist very closely. importantly is to check if there is certain mutation like T315i mutation as this mutation is resistant to gleevec, sprycel, tasigna (nilotinib) - and should be treated with ponatinib or aurora kinase inhibitor etc. discuss with oncologist. Nothing by itself: There is probably a very mild anemia, the white count is minimally up, and as far as I am concerned the platelets are still in the healthy range. As a lab specialist, I am always reminding people that labs mean nothing apart from the history and physical exam. I can raise my white count to this level taking a cold shower. If you feel well and there are no abnormal cells reported, be thankful. ...Read more

What could cause frequent pvcs (benign) daily? Bupropion XL 150mg 3x daily, Prozac (fluoxetine) 20mg, or the combo? Also take 200mg modafinil, levothroid 88mcg.

What could cause frequent pvcs (benign) daily? Bupropion XL 150mg 3x daily, Prozac (fluoxetine) 20mg, or the combo? Also take 200mg modafinil, levothroid 88mcg.

Your medications: The Modafinil is a stimulant which can cause abnormal hearth rhythms. Your levothroid, if not properly dosed could do it as well, ask your doctor for a blood test to make sure that dose is not too high for you. Being 58 years old, you could have heart problems unrelated to the medications. You should see a doctor to get this evaluated. ...Read more

12 years post op rny, iron 20 & vitamin d at 10. Seeing a new dr that hasn't worked with deficient gastric bypass, is 325ferrous 3x and 2000d 1x okay?

12 years post op rny, iron 20 & vitamin d at 10. Seeing a new dr that hasn't worked with deficient gastric bypass, is 325ferrous 3x and 2000d 1x okay?

Nutrition!: A gastric bypass is a very complex nutrition situation. If your physician has not dealt with it much i would suggest asking for a referral to a nutritionist or a bariatric center. That being said, the dosage of iron is fda approved treatment for iron deficiency, and the vitamin d is a reasonable amount. You have many nutrient levels that should be monitored and carefully watched! ...Read more

Does vitamin b17 affect cancer?

Does vitamin b17 affect cancer?

No: Vitamin b17 is not a vitamin, but an utterly cynical scam from the 1970's with rich right-wingers ripping off poor right-wingers. You are being targeted for a sucker. Examine the court transcripts in the laetrile rutherford case and decide if you want these people do do your thinking. It's still sold as "apricots from god", but failed every basic test. ...Read more
