Flutamide did work, but will it have bad side effects?

Maybe, maybe not: Side effects are possible, not probable w/any medication, herb and/or dietary supplement. There is no such item w/o potential side effect. But just because there is potential for possible side effect doesn't mean that it will happen. The only to find out is to try it.

Can I use flutamide against hirsutism?

Can I use flutamide against hirsutism?

Yes, but....: Flutamide is an anti-androgen, meaning that it interferes with or inhibits the actions of androgens (male hormones) and, therefore can be effective in the treatment of hirsutism. However, it also has more potential side effects and toxicity and generally is no more effective than another anti-androgen called spironolactone, which is the more widely used anti-androgen in the U.S.

Hi, I suffer from hirsutism because pcos and I use the pill. Flutamide associated with contraceptive pill is really effective? Are there better drugs?

Hi, I suffer from hirsutism because pcos and I use the pill. Flutamide associated with contraceptive pill is really effective? Are there better drugs?

Metformin: Metformin will help reduce Insulin resistance, which is the cause of pcos. Can induce normal menses and fertility. Flutamide or spironolactone can reduce testosterone if elevated. Contraceptive only regularize periods and make you infertile. Check w/your doctor.

How does flutamide work to reduce testosterone levels?

How does flutamide work to reduce testosterone levels?

Sits on T receptor: Flutamide sits on testosterone receptor but w/o stimulating any testosterone-like function. Because testosterone can't get to receptor, there's no testosterone function. In reality Flutamide doesn't so much reduce testosterone level as much as it reduces testosterone function. Flutamide has since been replaced by Bicalutamide & Nilutamide w/better side effect profiles.

No it doesn't: But your medication list notes both synthroid (with is a quality brand-name levothyroxine) as well as levothyroxine. Hopefully, you're not taking both. The brand name synthroid is the better product of the two.

Better/worse: I suppose you could get many opinions on this. Spironolactone has been around forever, very inexpensive and safe; Flutamide is newer, somewhat more effective, and expensive. For women wanting or at-risk to get pregnant neither is good, but spironolactone may be safer if you conceicve unexpectedly.
