What do I do if the fluoxetine causes headaches like the Citalopram? Just take Tylenol (acetaminophen) or ask Dr to see what they can do?
Prozac (fluoxetine) 40mg for headaches, back pain. Wanted to try stepping back down to 20mg. Dr. Wants to keep me at 40mg. Odd that doctor doesn't want to reduce?
Not really: I am not aware of any evidence that Prozac provides a benefit for pain. A class of medications called snri's is likely a better choice. Cymbalta (duloxetine) is now fda approved for musculoskeletal pain and it may be a better option. You should discuss this with your physician. ...Read more
A possible effect: Prozac (fluoxetine) can cause headaches. If you have chronic/constant headaches you should call your prescribing doctor today and explain your symptoms. It may not be the Prozac (fluoxetine), but the symptoms, if you don't have a history of migraine headaches are cause for a call to the dr. ...Read more
With Prozac (fluoxetine) for 1w. Dizziness headaches extreme fatigue, itchiness in various spots. (thought was mosquitoes, but no bites) normal side effects?
Some are: If symptoms get worse stop the med. Usual side effects get less than your body adjusts to the medicine. So things should get better. If they don't. Stop the meds and talk to your doctor about alternatives. ...Read more
Hi, I was given fluoxetine capsule tablets by the doctors for my headaches, they have since stopped, which is good, can you tell me why they stopped?
Serotonin, Sort of: Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors like Fluoxetine are often effective in treating chronic headaches in part because Serotonin is depleted in most forms of chronic pain, such as headaches. A reuptake inhibitor allows the existing Serotonin to do more work. Serotonin is needed in the "ascending pain pathway" — the pain you feel from anywhere on/in your body. ...Read more
If your seratonin low cn it cause u 2 hv band headaches & all kinds of horrible symptoms 2 your body. I use to be on Prozac (fluoxetine) 25 mg & now off of it.
In roundabout way: If you were on Prozac (fluoxetine) and stopped, it's possible to have some uncomfortable discontinuation symptoms [including headaches] even though Prozac (fluoxetine) is less likely than other ssri's to cause these. Another possibility is that Prozac (fluoxetine) was helping you relax, including the muscles around your scalp & forehead, which can tighten into tension headaches. Serotonin doesn't necessarily need to be "low" for this. ...Read more

Have headache from citalopram is this still side effects from it?but I have switched to fluoxetine now when can expect to go away?
Medicine half life: It is possible this is still a side effect of the old medicine, it is possible it is not a side effect. I would give this a week or so, it takes time for medicines to wear off. Hopefully the new medicine does not cause the same symptom. ...Read more

Is butterbur safe for migraines? Interactions? Taking Prozac (fluoxetine) to incr. Serotonin to reduce headaches. On a lot of other meds.
Generally safe: Although butterbur is generally safe (and probably safer than most medications used to treat migraine), there have been some reports of liver toxicity in some preparations. Look for preparations that are low in pyrrolizidine alkaloids (pas), which is thought to be the ingredient that can cause toxicity. ...Read more

Took 650 aspirin for headache along with normal regimine of baby aspirin and 40 Prozac (fluoxetine)...is this too much?
If you take a regular dose of aspirin you do not need to take "baby aspirin" that day, however the two combined are still not too much. For good health — Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco or alcohol in any form.

Prozac (fluoxetine) 10mg/day in the morning for 2years. No sex drive and lately can't sleep at all. Plus headaches. Help?
A few possibilities: You didn't say why you're taking prozac (fluoxetine), (fluoxetine) but insomnia, no sex drive, & headaches could be depression (returning?). Since many people need 20 mg, perhaps your dose is low. These symptoms could also be Prozac (fluoxetine) side-effects, less likely if they arose suddenly 2 years after starting treatment. Or they may be completely unrelated to prozac (fluoxetine). It's best to ask your prescribing doctor about this. ...Read more
Why am I more talkative before I take my prozac (fluoxetine)? Does Prozac (fluoxetine) help nerve pain, osteoarthritis, torn disc? Does seem to reduce headaches.
Not for pain per se.: I agree with dr rodrigues that prozac, (fluoxetine) and especially it's metabolite, has a long half-life, so being more talkative before you take the it should have very little to do with any major fluctuation in blood level. Perhaps it has to do with the time of day rather than the prozac, (fluoxetine) or it could be psychological? In terms of pain the literature suggests snri > ssris like Prozac (fluoxetine) in diminishing pain. ...Read more
I've been on Prozac (fluoxetine) for 8 weeks. I had a bad headache that ended after a couple days. The past 3 weeks I've had a sinus headache. Could it be Prozac (fluoxetine)?
Yes, or it could be: A separate condition(s). An EENT MD can quickly figure out if you have sinus conditions and if they caused your headaches. If so, treat that first. But, SSRI's are known to cause lots of side effects, including the ones you have. If nothing else pans, go to your prescribing MD (for the Prozac) and ask if another med might do. Don't necessarily stop on your own first, unless too uncomfort ...Read more
I take 10 mg of prozac (fluoxetine) a day. I get bad headaches from it. Am I allowed to take ibuprofen for the headaches? Are there any interactions btwn the two?
Ask your doctor: You should ask your doctor for the clearance to take other medications (even over the counters) while on Prozac (fluoxetine). Well, actually interesting you should ask because in fact, there are significant interactions which can cause either an increase in bleeding complications due to the ibuprofen or increased toxicity of the Prozac (fluoxetine). The combination should be closely monitored in general. Check with Doctor ...Read more
I've been on Prozac (fluoxetine) for 2 months but have headaches. Now my doctor suggested amitriptyline. Is that an ok combo? I don't like having to take more meds
Maybe : If the headache is new, then perhaps it is a side effect of the Prozac (fluoxetine). If that is the case you should talk to your doctor about changing the antidepressant before adding a new medication to address side effects. If you are prone to headaches, amitriptyline is a good option to decrease the amount of headaches. However, it is also an antidepressant and could cover both problems ...Read more
Can Prozac (fluoxetine) effect periods. I started Prozac (fluoxetine) 6/25 and should have had a period for july. I've been having headaches and anxiety. Not sexually active.?
Prozac (fluoxetine) and periods: Fluoxetine can affect menstruation patterns. Fluoxetine takes about 6 weeks to fully achieve positive effects. Anxiety and headaches are side effects. Talk to your doctor if you are unable to tolerate these side effects. Do not stop fluoxetine abruptly as these side effects can worsen. ...Read more
Suffering from mild depression doctor prescribed fluoxetine, took it and my headaches are gone stopped taking it for its side effects is that wrong?
Neither wrong/right: But of concern if you haven't spoken with the prescriber. All medications may have side effects, and some of them can be minimized, or will decrease over time. Prozac, for example, is stimulating and if taken late in the day can cause insomnia, but this is usually not a problem if taken first thing in the morning. For mild depression, psychotherapy can work well. Please talk to your physician. ...Read more
I have RA I am taking Lansoprazole, Meloxicam, Fluoxetine and Sulfasalazine for about 6 months. For the past few days I have had sickness and headache?
40mg fluoxetine-panic disorder, 180mg verapamil-cluster headache prevention (daily). Can I take rizatriptan pill 1hr after those meds for the headache?
May be risky: Taking Fluoxetine, a serotonin reuptake inhibitor, along with a triptan, a serotonin receptor agonist, increases the risk of serotonin syndrome. The syndrome consists of mental status changes, autonomic dysfunction, and neuromuscular abnormalities. Taking Fluoxetine with Verapamil, or Verapamil with Rizatriptan does not pose problematic interactions. Discuss concerns with doctor. Hope this helps. ...Read more
Take all at the same time daily 40mg fluoxetine for panic disorder 180 verapamil for cluster headache and 20 nexium (esomeprazole). How long after can I have a beer?
Best Practice...: May be best not to have a beer though we all recognize that is unrealistic for some people. However, studies have shown that people with moderate to severe depression and/or anxiety can be even more treatment resistant with just one drink (alcohol is a CNS depressant with increased anxiety as it's metabolized). That being said, one beer (12oz @ 5%) may be ok with these meds but not recommended. ...Read more
Is nausea headache shooting earache & shooting head pain teeth grinding dizzyness light-headed all side effects of prozac (fluoxetine)?
Not necessarily: Many of your symptoms appear to be related to a TMJ/TMD issue. Prozac (fluoxetine) does have some terrible side effects (bad effects, ) and should be explored. But the question is if you had any of these symptoms prior to going on Prozac (fluoxetine). Get to your Dr. or pharmacist and ask many questions. You may need more than one Dr. and/or a TMJ/TMD specialist. ...Read more
