How effective is fluoxetine in comparison to sertraline & escitalopram?

For what condition?: It's important to know what condition is being treated -- so a good evaluation always comes first. Then helpful medicines can be selected if they're needed. Fluoxetine, sertraline, and escitalopram are all excellent ssri antidepressants with good anti-anxiety effects -- but there are some differences. Just started Prozac 20mg 6 days ago. Was taking 10 mg of Lexapro (escitalopram) before. He many mg of Prozac would equal the same as 10 mg Lexapro (escitalopram)?

It's not like that: You're comparing apples and oranges. Different medications with different mechanisms don't have equivalent doses. Most medications have a usual starting dose which has been shown to have reasonable efficacy and tolerability. Then the dose is adjusted according to clinical response. You can't say, "This much of this one is the same as that much of that one." It doesn't work that way. ...Read more

Does Lexapro (escitalopram) have fewer side effects than prozac?

Does Lexapro (escitalopram) have fewer side effects than prozac?

Lexapro/Prozac: Possible since every person's tolerance differs from another. When Lexapro (escitalopram) first came out, it was the improved form of celexa, with less stomach & bowel side-effects, but I have seen patients that can tolerate different ssri's differently. Your doctor can give you good suggestions regarding switch. ...Read more
