Fluid Secretion From Behind Ear Lobe
Can I ask my dr to perform partial parotidectmy undr local anesthe? Pleomor adenoma less than 2cm behind ear lobe. Scared abt general anesth
You can ask but:
You can ask but unlikely. I'd be more worried about surgeon losing concentration with awake patient. Tumor very very close to facial nerve. Risk of facial paralysis.
You are safer doing the procedure under general anesthesia than you are driving to the hospital for the procedure.
Best bet: Have the procedure done using the protocol that the surgeon is most comfortable with. ...Read more
Sebaceous cysts: Many people have these cysts, which develop in the earlobes and behind the ears. They are oily, containing sebum, and sometimes can get infected. If you're able to express and drain them on your own, I would not be too concerned. If you develop a large one or it becomes infected, then sometimes surgical removal is necessary. ...Read more
Lump on face near ear lobe, moves slightly, rash behind ear, hurts a bit when touched. Is this serious?
Reactive node: The lump is most likely a reactive lymph node that tends to enlarge from pea sized to bean sized when stimulated by such things as skin rashes/bug bites/viruses &the like. They usually stay enlarged while stimulated &recede when not. Takes 3-4 weeks to settle down. Your doc can confirm this. ...Read more

Keep dry and clean:
I'm not sure exactly what you mean by secretions but if you are having drainage from a cyst that ruptured or a pierced ear that is oozing fluid, I'd say first off keep the area dry and clean. Soap and warm water, pat dry. If the area looks red, warm, and painful, it could be infected. In this case, it would be reasonable to get seen at a walk in clinic. Hope this helps ...Read more
Negative pressure: In order for the ear to work properly air from the outside of the ear drum has to be balanced by air on the inside of the eardrum. In an intact ear drum the only way for air to get into the middle ear space is up the eustachian tube. If the eustachian tube doesn't work well the air inside the middle ear gets used up creating a negative pressure. Eventually this pressure can become so low that fluid is sucked from the lining of the middle ear space. ...Read more
Not certain: It sounds like there is a fluid collection in the skin behind the ear. Questions to ask yourself: is this soft? Does it move when you touch it? Is it painful or red? Have you had any surgery in this region? There is a natural " lump" behind the ear that is called the mastoid process. This can have an infection and if there is surrounding fluid this may be the fluid lump rthat you see. See your dr. ...Read more

I have neck pain, fluid behind ear, swollen glands in neck and cold sore all on the right side. Dr. Put me on amoxil (amoxicillin) and steriods. Is this normal?
Is what normal?: The symptoms of neck pain, swollen glands, fluid behind the ear drum and cold sore all strongly suggest that you have a viral upper respiratory infection. The treatment with amoxacillin therefore might not be indicated. A general rule that most ENT physicians follow is this: if symptoms are getting worse after 5 days or not better after 10 days, we recommend empirically an antibiotic. ...Read more
