Negative pressure : In order for the ear to work properly air from the outside of the ear drum has to be balanced by air on the inside of the eardrum. In an intact ear drum the only way for air to get into the middle ear space is up the eustachian tube. If the eustachian tube doesn't work well the air inside the middle ear gets used up creating a negative pressure. My 2 year old had ear infection that went away, she's on zyrtec (cetirizine) for her allergies any thing i can do to help get rid of fluid behind ear drum.

Patience please: He fluid may persist for weeks after the infection clears but should resolve without help.Avoiding airway irritants like smoke or fragrances can reduce the chance the eustachian tube will remain swollen & prevent fluid release. ...Read more
