Can taking diflucan (fluconazole) and birth control delay your period?

Can taking diflucan (fluconazole) and birth control delay your period?

Depends: Taking Diflucan (fluconazole) will not delay your period. If you are taking birth control and you miss pills, or skip placebo pills and go straight to next pack, then the ocp can delay your period. But in general, taking these medications as prescribed will not delay your period. ...Read more

Will taking fluconazole affect my birth control?

Will taking fluconazole affect my birth control?

Minor effect: Fluconazole actually increases the level of the hormone by affecting the liver/intestinal enzyme that is responsible for metabolizing the hormones in your pill. Thus, this in theory, may increase the effect of your pill. However, using Fluconazole is typically given as a single dose or a short 7-10 days course and so I would not be too concerned. Consult doc. Good luck. ...Read more

If diflucan (fluconazole) does not deplete birth control, why is that a warning on the prescription?

If diflucan (fluconazole) does not deplete birth control, why is that a warning on the prescription?

Topical yeast cream: If this is a concern to you then consider using an over the counter or a prescription topical vaginal yeast cream. They tend to work better anyway as they cover more kinds of vaginal yeast. A one time oral dose of Diflucan (fluconazole) will not affect birth control. That class of anti yeast medication is large doses for prolonged periods of time can affect the liver metabolism of oral contraceptives. ...Read more

Will fluconazole 150mg alter the effectiveness of my birth control? I use aviane and I will start the 2nd week tomorrow

Probably not: I find no record of interaction between these two meds. Unfortunately, that does not mean one could exist in certain patients. So I would recommend using foam and/or condoms for the next couple weeks to be sure. ...Read more

Will fluconazole 150mg one time tablet effect my birth control. I have read that it does and that it does not from healthtap. So I'm a bit confused.

Unlikely: There is no listed interaction in Lexicomp. I believe the jury is still out on whether antifungals or other antibiotics interfere with contraceptives. Authoritative sources such as UpToDate have opined that antibiotics have not been proven to interact. There is some anecdotal data to the contrary however. Best advice is use a barrier method until the next period to be certain. ...Read more

I'm on my week of inactive birth control pills. If I take a fluconazole 150mg tablet, will it make my birth control less effective?

I'm on my week of inactive birth control pills. If I take a fluconazole 150mg tablet, will it make my birth control less effective?

Birth control pills: There is no evidence to suggest that it would. If anything, other azole antifungals (like ketoconazole) inhibit the pathway in the liver that metabolizes your birth control pill, i.e. Make more of the pill available not less. The only antibiotic that was shown to reduce efficacy of birth control was rifampin, which speeds up the metabolic pathway in the liver. ...Read more

On birth control. Junel fe 1/20. Should I worry about backup method on fluconazole? Took the pill on Tuesday the 19th

Backup method??: Fluconazole is an anti fungal medicine, NOT a birth control medicine! Either you misspelled a word or somebody is misleading you. The BCPs that you are taking have an efficacy of greater than 99% if you follow the directions scrupulously. Their very rare failure is due to women skipping the pill. It doesn't work if you don't take it. Back up includes diaphragm, IUD, foam, condom use, etc. ...Read more
