Is it safe to take fluconazole while breastfeeding?

Is it safe to take fluconazole while breastfeeding?

Probably: There does not seem to be adequate literature to assess the risk of Fluconazole exposure from breastmilk on infants so caution is advised. However, Fluconazole is a drug given to neonates to treat candida. When measuring the amount of the drug excreted in breastmilk it has been found to be less than the prescribed neonatal dose so it is probably safe. Info can be found on drugs. Is fluconazole a dangerous medicine? I have been feeling nausea after I started it. And I have 2 times left of the treatment

Possible: Fluconazole can cause your liver to react adversely to it, however, any part of your gastrointestinal tract can do it too. Also, I see you take Lamictal and zoloft (sertraline). Interaction between these may be the culprit likewise. I would suggest you give it another trial and if the same thing happen, call your doc and get an alternative. ...Read more

Side effect of fluconazole?

Fluconazole!: A great antifungual drug. Yes, liver issues are commonly listed (but very uncommon) as a side effect and its effects on the metabolism of other drugs (increasing levels of statins, viagra, (sildenafil) cialis), but they are far more less likely to have these issues compared with other systemic antifungals. I've used it in hundreds of patients without seeing a single major problem. ...Read more

Finished fluconazole 1 wk ago. Don't drink much. Now in vegas and after eating at 11pm. Went to casino at 3am played for 7 hours and drank 8 shots. Urinated a lot and vomited later. Can my liver damage

Liver in Trouble: I doubt you have permanently damaged your liver. But, you surely did put some strain on it. You could have two things: alcohol poisoning (given how much alcohol you had in one setting) and liver toxicity by combining the Fluconazole with a large amount of alcohol. Hydrate well and avoid the alcohol for at least one week. ...Read more
