My GERD was under control with Prilosec. Three days after the stomach flu hit it's awful again. Is there a connection?
Give it some time.: A "stomach flu" can be accompanied by nausea, vomiting and "heartburn" that can mimic your usual GERD, and it can be so relentless that your Prilosec is simply not helping right now. It's doubtful that this stomach flu in the short term would have worsened your GERD for the long term. Give it a few more days and hopefully you'll start feeling better in this regard. ...Read more

Your WBC is high: A WBC of 18 is high. This could mean bacterial or viral infection or inflammation, or maybe you are taking Prednisone for your lupus. Prednisone or other steroids cause a high wbc. It sounds like you should check in with your rheumatologist as soon as possible. The swelling you describe needs to be examined by a doctor who knows you and your chronic health history. Have had stomach flu for 5 days. No vomiting but everything else. Should I take PPI to counter BAD heartburn or is acid needed to fight infection?
Have stomach (flu test neg) illness. Went to clinic, no definitive diagnosis. Vomiting on empty stomach yesterday. None today, feeling better, & able to eat some plain foods. Heartburn for about 5 hrs tonight I assume from acid/bile. Tums okay?
Heartburn after having stomach flu, no vomiting only diarrhea, fever and aches. Tums (calcium carbonate) and organic vinager don't help. What would help the heartburn?
Try an H2 blocker: Some people develop heartburn after a stomach flu even without vomiting, because the stomach flu may have caused gastroesophageal reflux, and irritation to the esophagus. I suggest try famotidine 20mg twice a day or ranitidine 150mg twice a day, both are over the counter. In addition, avoid alcohol, caffeine, cigarettes, large meals, and fatty meals. Also, Gaviscon tabs are a wonderful antacid. ...Read more
