Normal: You were under a fluid retaining effect of Florinef (fludrocortisone) based on your report of weight gain of 7 pounds and swelling. Your 0.5 mg dose is unclear to me. The tab is 0.1 mg. This means you are taking 5 pills/day or you mean 0.05mg? ...Read more

How does 0.1 mg florinef (fludrocortisone) work differently or similarly to 1 tsp salt in gatorade? And wil florinef (fludrocortisone) retain as much sodium as the sodium in gatorade?

Complicated: That is a complicated answer. Florinef (fludrocortisone) is a mineralocorticoid ( a steroid) that prevents loss of sodium into the urine. So if you are prescribed Florinef (fludrocortisone) you likely have a salt losing kidney issue. So if you in fact do have that problem the salt that you take in will be excreted into the urine and will not help expand your blood volume. ...Read more
