A bit more time..: Not sure whether your main complaint was congestion (inability to breathe through the nose) or facial pain/pressure. I's not uncommon for a true sinusitis to take 3 weeks or even more to clear. Saline nasal rinse is always a good choice but if symptoms persist (or worsen) may be time to see your doctor or an ENT. ...Read more

Had a thyroidecomy last may due to graves at the time i had a feeling of something in my throat and it eventually went away now I have it occasionally. I do have allegies, runny nose and use flonase?

See ENT if persists: Since you have had your thyroid removed, it is very unlikely that your symptoms are related to your thyroid or the surgery. Post nasal drip due to allergies is one of the most common reasons for that feeling. Acid reflux and anxiety are also common reasons. An ENT specialist would be able to look down your throat to see if there is an anatomic problem. ...Read more

My right ear itches as well as my throat and sometimes even my nose. I take Flonase but things are worsening lately. What can I do to stop the itching?

Itchy mucus membrane: Certainly could be allergic to some inhalants. Have you tried oral antihistamines? Flonase is a topical nasal anti-inflammator. Antihistamines often work in addition for itching. If symptoms persists see a board certified allergist. ...Read more

How can I prevent my nasal spray (Flonase) from dripping down my throat? Also, is it safe to swallow?

How can I prevent my nasal spray (Flonase) from dripping down my throat? Also, is it safe to swallow?

Good Technique: Practicing good technique will limit dripping: Close one nostril and put tip of spray nozzle in other nostril. Put just the tip into your nose, aim slightly away from center of nose. While sniffing gently, press down on spray nozzle once or twice. You'll feel a light mist in your nose. Breathe out through your mouth. Repeat in other nostril. Swallowing some of the spray is not dangerous. ...Read more

Have had major post nasal drip recently alleviated by flonase. In the wake of a clear throat, there are a few small red bumps coating it. Painless.

Not unusual: These are likely from lymphoid tissues (a cluster of white blood cells) induced by post-nasal drips or inflammation . They should improve within a couple of weeks if the post-nasal drips have been controlled. Sinus infection and reflux disease can also cause these bumps. ...Read more

Can allergic rhinitis w/ severe post nasal drip and painful swollen l-neck gland bring on high blood press. prescription zyrtec, singulair, (montelukast) flonase, motrin?

Can allergic rhinitis w/ severe post nasal drip and painful swollen l-neck gland bring on high blood press. prescription zyrtec, singulair, (montelukast) flonase, motrin?

Probably not: Allergic rhinitis is an immunological disease caused by mast cell degranulation and the release of mediators of inflammation, especially histamine. I suppose it is possible that mast cell inflammatory mediators could alter blood pressure. Also another possibility is anxiety caused by the presence of severe allergic response. In general most cases of hypertension are not caused by nasal allergy. ...Read more

Is it dangerous if the fluids from Fluticasone Nasal Spray go down the throat?

Is it dangerous if the fluids from Fluticasone Nasal Spray go down the throat?

Not really: The only minor risk may be of fungal infection of the throat (aka thrush), which is treatable and much more commonly occurs with steroid containing inhalers. More importantly, the medication will be less effective in the nose if landing in the throat..try a more gentle sniff and pinch the nose after spraying to keep the medication local. ...Read more

Throat started to hurt bad 5 days ago. Taking Zyrtec (cetirizine) and Flonase; throat still in so much pain and ears feel weird, but no fever. What should I do?

Sore Throat: Your symptom of sore throat might be unrelated to allergies and could instead be from a virus or bacterial infection. Given the severity of your symptoms I would have your primary doctor take a look at your throat and consider getting a culture. Perhaps you have strep throat which can be treated very quickly with a course of antibiotics. ...Read more

Dx viral pharyngitis prescription Mucinex (guaifenesin) & flonase. draining today earache sore throat and 101.2 temp. Still have fever body aches. Advice? Baby has cold too

Urgent care: With a fever and "draining" (I'm assuming your ear?), I would recommend you see your doc or go to an urgent care clinic for a proper physical examination, including an examination of the ear, surrounding structures, and your nose and throat. It is possible you may require antibiotics. Your baby may need to be seen too. ...Read more

I think I have a sinus infection, I used Flonase today and did the neddy pot, I still have a lot of pressure in my upper nose canal, any advise??!

Sinus infection: It depends on what you mean by a sinus infection. An upper respiratory virus can cause the same symptoms of nasal and sinus congestion and it typically lasts between 7 to 10 days. A bacterial infection that may need antibiotics extends beyond the 10 day period or it progressively worsens over time. Your current treatment is good, but if things worsen you should see your doctor. ...Read more

I took 1 tablet of Zyrtec 10mg and flonase today at 10am. It didnt really help, my nose is still clogged. Can I take Benadryl before bed so that it helps me sleep?

Yes you can, but: you need to revise how are you taking those medicines. You need to flush your nose with saline and clear the nasal passages before using the Flonase, which has to used right, (directed backwards and outwards when inside your nose towards your ear). You can double the dose of Flonase or take it twice a day for a day or two, if all this doesn't help, better see your doctor / ENT for re-evaluatio ...Read more

Finishing 12 day steroid taper, using aerospan, flonase, &singulair, still have issues breathing through nose.Did 2 antibiotic courses.Ever get well?

Nasal blockage: Greetings. It sounds like you have been using some good medications. I suggest seeing an ENT doctor for a detailed endoscopic exam of your nasal and sinus passages. There could be a chronic infection not being effectively treated by your medication. Possibly a fungal infection. An image of your sinuses may also be recommended such as a CT scan if the ENT thinks it might help resolve your issues. ...Read more

When my nose is clogged and I take flonase it only cleans out one nose and they other is still clogged the side Changes though with each use?

Right dosage/usage: the way you use the fluticasone spray and the dose affect the delivery of medicine to the nasal passages, also cleaning your nose and irrigating it well with saline wash prior to using the medicine is important, if all those maneuvers don't work please get evaluated by an allergist/ENT specialist, check aaaai.org or acaai.org for an allergist in your area, ...Read more

I take Flonase for sinus but left side still feels pressure that's goes to my eye and head. Really uncomfortable. Cause? What can I do?

Sinusitis: If Flonase hasn't relieved the symptoms, you may have a blocked sinus and need to see a physician. Osteopathic physicians can sometimes check to see if it is related to poor motion within the facial bones from an injury as well as prescribe antibiotics if it is an infection. ...Read more

Headache: would stay for some time if it is sinusitis, Flonase alone might not help, also viral meningitis headache might still be the cause, although with absence of fever is rare, neck pain could be due to pharyngitis as well, you need a second opinion, it's your right and no offense to the first evaluating doctor, diseases change course and evolve with time ...Read more

When spraying Flonase in nostrils is it normal for it to feel like a little went in throat or am I spraying too high up? Should I spray lower? Thanks!

Proper Technique: First gently blow your nose to clear it of mucus before using the medicine. Tilt your head forward slightly. Put the spray tip into nostril and aim slightly out (away from septum). Use the finger of your other hand to close off your other nostril. Spraying toward the septum or straight up can cause the medication to be swallowed. Online technique videos on Flonase website helpful. ...Read more

I used Flonase and developed a very sore, red throat. I can also see a white line running down the back, will symptoms resolve w/discontinuation?

Likely: You are probably not aiming the spray towards the side of the nose and thus getting most of the medication to the throat leading to a candida infection. Yes, it will likely go away with time but the recovery may be hastened by using a topical anti-fungal agent. ...Read more
