I use a nasal spray 3-4 times for 5 days because I had stuffy nose caused by sinusitis. Now it's like I have "ciggarette addiction"? How to stop this
Rebound congestion: Over the counter nasal decongestant sprays (Rhinocort Aq being an exception) can cause troubling rebound congestion and should only be used sparingly for a very short period. Recovery involves complete discontinuation of the spray, and waiting for the tissues of the nose to return to normal. Hopefully one of our ENT doctors will chime in if there are prescriptions available to help! ...Read more
I got treatment today for my nose currently healing from sinusitis. I got a new nasal spray and Zirtec. Never tried it before. Will it make me sleepy?
Can I use xlear nasal spray whilst I am using beconase steroid nasal spray. Am suffering chronic sinusitis due to concha bullosa :(?
Yes: Beconase (beclomethasone) is an intranasal steroid to suppress the inflammation in your nose and the xlear is likely a decongestant. Are you seeing an ent? If not, you might want to get those concha bullosas removed or at least consider balloon angioplasty. I would also recommend increasing the Beconase (beclomethasone) to 2 sprays to each nostril twice daily for 2 weeks. ...Read more

I’m on prednisone 30mg/day for sinusitis. Forgot to ask Dr. whether I can continue taking ACC200, sinutab & beclomethasone nasal spray which were prescribed last week?
Also. What should I look out for if infection arises while on prednisone?
Prednisone: Generally beclomethasone spray can be eliminated while on oral prednisone, as well as other meds mentioned. Infection? Persistent discolored nasal discharge, facial pain. Afrin or similar decongestant may help keep sinus ostia open, saline irrigations help as well. No smoking, no alcohol, no particulate exposure. ...Read more
Can nasonex (mometasone) nasal spray make you gain weight? I use it daily. 2 sprays in each nostril? I have chronic sinusitus.
The active ingredient in Nasonex nasal spray is mometasone which is the nasal steroid least absorbed into the blood stream. Also, when looking at the side effect profile of this medication, weight gain is not on the list. So it is very unlikely that Nasonex in a normal dose (such as what you are on) causes weight gain.

I was diagnosed in late feb. With chronic viral sinusitus. For 5 weeks I have been using a neti pot two times a day plus nasal spray. I did have CT scan at that time with imflamed nasal tissue. I still have pain in my ears and an extremely loud ringing in
?allergies: I recommend allergy skin tests to see if you have underlying allergies that can cause sinus inflammation. Allergies make infections more likely. Ringing in the ears could be due to fluid behind the ear drum which is a sign of either infection or allergies. I assume the nasal spray you are using is a steroid nasal spray like Flonase which should be effective. Allergy shots may be needed. ...Read more

I can't use decongestants so tried 2 nasal sprays for sinusitis & ETD. Flonase, Nasonex (mometasone) both resulted in horrid migraines. Is there any other option?

Rhinitis 8 yrs, IgE 867, use many antihistamines, allergy shots, nasal sprays. Sinusitis after stoppage of sneezing. How to stop all this? Is hormonal cause?
2nd opinion: I presumed you have had a workup by an allergist who has instructed you on the proper technique on the nasal spray and you have followed the instructions on avoidance measures. Have you tried Dymista or singulair (montelukast) yet? And yes, hormone can affect nasal congestion being most evident in some women during pregnancy. I would seek a 2nd opinion from another allergist if symptoms remain uncontrolled. ...Read more

Which nasal sprays : Do u mean? Otc ones? Nasal steroids? The live virus influenza vaccine that is a nasal spray does not contain thimerosol (mercury). Perhaps: Dayquil contains Acetaminophen (tylenol), phenylephrine (decongestant) and dextramethorphan (cough suppressant). There should be no interaction with saline nasal sprays, steroid nasal sprays, antihistamine nasal sprays. There would be no real reason to use a decongestant nasal spray as this would be redundant, but unlikely to be harmful. ...Read more
