Not, but. ..: Clinically, Flomax (tamsulosin) has not caused ED, but some ejaculatory dysfunctions such as low ejaculate & retrograde ejaculation in 8-18 % of patients, which is dose related, due to its effective relaxation of bladder neck, which yet helps men improve urine flow. Fortunately, most of men using it don't need to make more baby so they can accept and cope with this side effect to trade with better urine flow.See 1 more doctor answer
Drug used in urology: Tamsulosin, also known under the name flomax, (tamsulosin) is a drug designed to relax smooth muscle cells of the urinary tract. Its approved use is to improve urination in prostate enlargement (bph). It has been shown to improve urinary symptoms, or ipss score. It is also used to help pass kidney stones by relaxing the ureter. It is also used, at times, as an adjunct in the treatment of chronic prostatitis.
2 groups: 3 groups of medicines for prostate enlargement symptoms:Alpha blockers e.g.tamsulosin (Flomax) & terazosin (Hytrin).5-alpha reductase inhibitors such as finasteride (Proscar)&dutasteride (Avodart). There is also Jalyn which has 1 of each of these 2 groups. 3rd group is PDE-5 inhibitors (Cialis). It varies from person to person which is better, but the 5-alpha reductase inh's take several months to work.
Stronger urination: Relaxes the prostate - allows for stronger urine flow.
See answer: The normal dose of Flomax (Tamsulosin) is 0.4 mg 1-2 daily either together or 12 hrs apart. Would not expect any serious reaction (s) from taking the extra dose and you should be able to resume your once daily dosing 24 hrs after taking the 2 doses. Most common side effect is feeling light-headed or dizzy.
Furanocoumarins...: Are compounds present in grapefruit that inhibit certain enzymes (cyp3a4) that are important in the metabolism of drugs. Since they are inhibited, a higher dose of the drug ends up in the circulation, increasing the therapeutic effects, adverse effects, & toxicity. Caution is advised regarding tamsulosin (flomax) use, but no deaths have been reported.
Depends: As much as $10-$100 per 30day supply.
How long does it take for flomax (tamsulosin) to begin working? I have for 1 week and not seen improvement
Maybe something else: You should see some improvement with Flomax (tamsulosin) within several days, in most cases. If you are not seeing any improvement, there may be something else going on other than BPH, such as a urethral stricture or some other cause for mechanical obstruction. You should see a urologist for further evaluation.
Is there much difference between 0.4 and 0.8 of tamsulosin (flomax) - find the 0.4 has lost its effect on me?
Twice as much: Taking twice the dose of tamsulosin can make a fair amount of difference for some people, but often it just increases the amount of lightheadedness (orthostatic hypotension). If 0.4mg has lost its effect, it's worth trying the double dose. If it doesn't work, see your urologist to discuss other options.
My husband has had a bad reaction to flomax (tamsulosin). Is has been about 38 hours since his last dose. How long does for this drug to get out of his system?
3.2 days.: The half-life of tamsulosin (flomax) is 15 hours, so in an average 70 kg individual will be completely out of the body in 75 hours. This time could increase if he has problems with his liver, or liver disease such as cirrhosis or hepatitis. Finally, he must avoid all grapefruit and grapefruit juice, since this can slow metabolism of the drug.
What is the best amt. To switch from. 4mg / day flomax (tamsulosin) to saw palmetta? Is it better to take more than 1 450mg the 1st few days to get in system fast.
Saw pal and flomax (tamsulosin): These are two different medications and should not be replaced with each other. Recent studies have shown saw palmetto to be ineffective in treating prostate problems.See 1 more doctor answer
Unfortunately not: Tamsolusin branded as Flomax (tamsulosin) belongs to a group of drugs called alpha-adrenergic blockers. It can only "soften/loosen your prostate gland" thus minimizing the compression of your urethra, hence allowing you to pee more efficiently. Prostatitis can make the peeing process more difficult and Flomax (tamsulosin) can help the symptoms a bit, but cannot cure prostatitis. Consult doc. Good luck.
Flomax (tamsulosin): Flomax (tamsulosin) or tamulosin is an Alpha blocker used for relief of urinary symptoms caused by prostate enlargement. Side effects include stuffy nose, retrograde ejaculation, lightheadedness/dizziness. This is the first drug in this class that had specific action on the prostate and is very effective.
Different types.: Both medications are used to treat urinary symptoms related to benign prostatic enlargement. Flomax (tamsulosin) is an alpha-blocker, or agents that work on relaxing smooth muscle in the urinary tract to improve flow. Avodart (dutasteride) is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor, which blocks the hormone (dht) that encourages growth of the prostate over time, the size of the prostate decreases.
