I: I agree---going off the medicine does not good. Just let your doctor know that you are on it and he can take the necessary operative precaustions during the surgery. Don't let this stop you from having the surgery that will improve your vision. ...Read more

Does flomax (tamsulosin) at. 4mg daily actually shrink the prostate?

Does flomax (tamsulosin) at. 4mg daily actually shrink the prostate?

Decreasing Semen: Nope. The prostate gland should be thought of as a balloon. The semen production is decreased with this medication so less is filling up the prostate and with less fluid there is less size or a smaller 'balloon'. ...Read more

I just stopped flomax (tamsulosin) after 2 years. Is it a problem if I take super beta prostate and saw palmetto at the same time? Would this be dangerous?

I just stopped flomax (tamsulosin) after 2 years. Is it a problem if I take super beta prostate and saw palmetto at the same time? Would this be dangerous?

Probably not: There shouldn't be a problem. However, just because quarterback joe likes it (and gets paid to be a shill for it) doesn't mean it works. I'd talk to my doctor and i'd be very careful about stopping Flomax (tamsulosin) and depending on unproven therapy. ...Read more

Using flomax (tamsulosin) for enlarged prostate. Do super beta and saw palmetto both shrink the prostate? Please be specific about benefits of each.

Mo: Nothing that you mentioned shrinks the prostate. Flomax only relaxes the smoothe muscle component of the prostate. Otc products largely are ineffective. Prescription Proscar or Avodart (dutasteride) are the only drugs that actually shrink the prostate. ...Read more

Waste of money: There is no good data on any of the expensive special mixes of "herbs and spices" in things like "4x prostate." but at least some snake oil salesman has a nice yacht. Note that there is good data that saw palmetto is not better than placebo. (for the record, I have nothing against the placebo effect).

I use flomax (tamsulosin) for bph. Some doctors on your site say to use saw palmetto - some say not to use but to use super beta prostate. Which is best and why?

Similar action: Saw palmetto is a natural product that actually has a version of the active ingredient in Finasteride (proscar)" a simolar drug to flomax, (tamsulosin) so may work as well. However, the dosing is very different in herbal products and the quality varies. Your physician can help you decide which product is best for you. ...Read more

Coud there be another treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (bph) besides doxazosin and flomax (tamsulosin)?

Coud there be another treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (bph) besides doxazosin and flomax (tamsulosin)?

BPH: Treatments for BPH fall into two categories; medical and surgical. Medical therapy includes Alpha blocker medications to improve urine flow and 5-alpha reductase inhibitors to shrink the gland. The surgical options include thermal or laser destruction of prostatic tissue or transurthral resection of prostaic tissue (turp). The "best" treatment is a very individual thing. ...Read more

enlarged prostate/ luts, started flomax (tamsulosin) and proscar. 4 episododes of dark stained underwear. Urine test done. Is catscan and cystoscopy needed? . 6p

Possible prostatitis: An enlarged prostate with staining of underwear could be due to prostatitis. Is there discomfort on urination? What did the urine test show? Be sure to get a urinalysis with microscopic exam and a urine culture. Get a PSA test to rule out prostate cancer. If these don't give the answer, get a cystoscopy and possibly catscan.

I was checking my doctor records I'm switching urologist my prostate is 20 grams is that normal I'm on flomax 0.4mg also take topamax (topiramate) I dribble-burn?

Discuss w/ new doc: Discuss this with your new urologist. If this is a new symptom, then see your primary care for a urinalysis. If this has been there for some time, make sure to discuss it with the new urologist. There are many factors that go in to making a diagnosis and formulating a treatment plan. Hope this helps! ...Read more
