Should I be concerned if my feces are green? I am 44 years old and menopausal

Should I be concerned if my feces are green? I am 44 years old and menopausal

Hello.: Hello. Although I can’t say why your feces is green; let’s examine possible causes. Since you did not describe any health problems, I am working on the assumption that you feel healthy. One reason could be your diet. Eating foods that contain chlorophyll (i.e., broccoli, spinach or other green leafy vegetables) or taking iron supplements or multiple vitamins that contain iron can lead to green bowel movements. Green food coloring which can be found in foods like popsicles or jello is a possibility.
If you have diarrhea and green stools that is a different matter. Bile is green and is excreted into the small intestine. If your stool is moving too fast through your gut, it may not be properly digested and you could end up with green stool from the bile (rather the brown feces).
Possible causes of green bowel movements can include: using antibiotics, food poisoning, diarrhea from bacteria or parasites, irritable bowel syndrome, using laxatives, malabsorption and diseases that cause inflammation in varying areas of the gut.
It is not uncommon to have green bowel movements once in a while. If you have green bowel movements and you have diarrhea or abdominal pain, that would be a reason to get checked out by the doctor. If your stool is always green and it can’t be explained by supplements, medications or diet, check with your doctor.
Take care. ...Read more

What to take for menopause headaches daily?

What to take for menopause headaches daily?

Daily headaches: Some women are prescribed a low dose hormone replacement which sometimes helps (if you have no risk factors for breast cancer). You need to avoid over-using pain medications which cause rebound headaches (narcotics, tylenol, (acetaminophen) fioricet). Anti-inflammatories (ibuprofen, naproxen) sometimes help. You might need a prescription for a daily medication to try to prevent the headaches. ...Read more

I am 53 going through the menopause and my complexion is oily naturally but am experiencing constant spots and painfull blind boils on the chin daily?

Ouch: As we age both estrogen and testosterone decrease, but estrogen more so after menopause, meaning that testosterone has more expression in post-menopausal female. Likely testosterone cause of changes in complexion. I would see a derm to make sure nothing serious, get a rx for Retin-A (helps with wrinkles too!) to help clear up the chin. Good luck! ...Read more

Can I safely take succinic acid to help with menopausal symptoms, especially weight gain? I take a multi-vitamin and cranberry supplement daily.

Safe but not proven: I know of no evidence that succinic acid helps with weight gain related to menopause. It is a component of amberen, which claims to have studies showing it helps hot flashes, headaches & anxiety, but even they don't claim their studies show it helps weight loss. I am skeptical about it helping but it seems safe to try (though I am concerned it contains msg). See comment:. ...Read more

46, on no meds, perimenapuasal, with uterus, beginning estrasorb & prometrium (micronized progesterone). Should I use them both daily for best relief of menopausal symptoms?

Follow the Rx!: The estrogen cream is usually used every day for relief of such symptoms as hot flashes. Progesterone pills (such as prometrium) do not relieve symptoms. They are often used for only part of the month (most often 12-14 days) just to protect the lining of the uterus from too much stimulation from the estrogen. Estrogen alone can cause excess thickening of the lining or even polyps or cancers. ...Read more

My stools come out in very dark greenish black pebbles. What does this mean? I've had different color, texture, and floating and non float stools

Possibly melena?: Dark-colored stools may result from iron supplements, foods you eat (like a lot of spinach), substances (like peptobismol), but most significantly suggests bleeding. When blood is denatured by acid in your stomach, as from ulcers, stools will turn tarry ("melena"). Blood may also be ingested from nose bleeds, bleeding gums...
