They can get irritated on your hip or on the ledge of a couch when you're leaning or a variety of other things. They are slow to heal. Sometimes you can feel them slip underneath another rib. These are extremely uncommon, to say the least. A healing fracture off a bone could be felt as a swelling.

Ting better, then just continue with the pain meds, and start gradual twisting exercises of the body, slowly, within limits of discomfort and progress daily.
If symptoms increase then see your doc.
These ribs are surrounded by muscles, so sprained muscles are a common result of an injury. Warm/hot packs would greatly help.

Posterior rib fractures even with flail portion can be pretty stable and protected.
Anterior 2-4 rib segments are quit mobile and additional trauma could puncture lung or underlying tissue.
If 2 months or so, probably stable enough to work.
